Job Summary

As a Metrology & Real-Time Defect Analysis Engineer, you will drive product quality and yield improvement by developing advanced measurement and inspection solutions for semiconductor manufacturing. You will demonstrate metrology, defect analysis, data analytics, and statistical process control techniques to detect process deviations, pinpoint origins of defects, and implement effective corrective actions. Working closely with cross-functional teams, equipment suppliers, and manufacturing partners, you will optimize inspection capabilities, improve process monitoring, and support technology advancement. Success in this role requires strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, a passion for innovation, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work proactively to solve problems with yield or quality impact on our products through development of measurement recipes that can provide quick and accurate feedback on the product integrity.
  • Apply advanced analytics techniques to identify and address deviations in machinery and processes.
  • Engage in designing experiments to identify defect sources and formation mechanisms, providing insights for defectivity improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers from diverse departments to contribute ideas and assist in implementing breakthrough solutions for defectivity improvement.
  • Apply the latest innovative inspection tools for defect detection, contributing to advancements in semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Set up tool qualification criteria and implement monitoring through Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
  • Set appropriate control chart limits and utilize effective sampling for proactive intervention against machinery and process deviations.
  • Implement sampling methodologies to proactively detect and address deviations, ensuring efficient and effective root cause identification.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Operations and/or Application teams to optimize tool maintenance schedules and utilization.
  • Contribute to strategic projects aimed at minimizing products at risk and improving overall product quality.
  • Develop and run projects crafted to enhance inline detection, improve efficiency, reduce cost, reduce tool measurement variability and improve machine availability.
  • Partner with the tool suppliers and owners to explore innovative ways of doing things to overcome the challenge of the shrinking technology nodes.
  • Support Fab through data analysis, providing knowledgeable summations of results and recommendations on how to proceed with process changes, equipment availability improvements and cost reduction work.
  • Ensure engineering team is trained on recipe maintenance, tool recovery, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities for the assigned tools.
  • Integrates AI-assisted tools and insights into daily work to improve efficiency, quality, or effectiveness, exercising sound judgment and complying with organizational standards and legal requirements.
  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying, testing, and sharing AI-enabled enhancements within one’s scope of work.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Engineering or Science is required
  • Strong analytical, logical, and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communicator, able to collaborate across all levels
  • Growth mindset with a passion for continuous learning
  • Internship or experience in the semiconductor industry is a plus
  • Demonstrated leadership and a track record of impact are highly desirable
  • Interest in and knowledge of the semiconductor industry and Micron is preferred.
  • Capable of working on a flexible schedule (e.g. compress shift)
  • Candidates with relevant experience is preferred.
  • Ability to apply baseline digital fluency and role‑appropriate AI literacy to use AI‑enabled tools responsibly and effectively for research, analysis, content creation, problem‑solving, operational tasks and achieving business outcomes.
