EY is seeking an Engagement Manager at Senior Manager level to lead complex Data & AI transformation engagements for public sector clients. The role blends consulting leadership with hands-on solutioning, architecture oversight and client management to deliver practical, scalable data solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Data Science, Engineering, Business or related field.
• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience in consulting delivering complex technology/Data & AI transformation programmes.
• Experience leading large, multi-workstream programmes with multidisciplinary teams.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Engagement Manager at Senior Manager level to lead complex, large-scale technology and transformation engagements.

The ideal candidate combines strong consulting and programme leadership experience with deep knowledge of Data & AI, including the ability to architect data solutions, shape solution approaches and engage confidently with both senior business stakeholders and technical teams.

This role is suited to someone who can operate across engagement leadership, solutioning, delivery and client management, rather than purely managing programme administration.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead large, complex Data, AI and technology transformation engagements, managing multiple workstreams and multidisciplinary teams across the programme lifecycle.
• Take overall responsibility for engagement delivery, including scope, milestones, dependencies, risks, resources, commercials, governance and delivery outcomes.
• Work with senior client stakeholders to understand business challenges and translate them into practical Data & AI solutions and transformation roadmaps.
• Shape and architect enterprise data solutions, working across areas such as data platforms, data architecture, data engineering, integration, analytics and AI.
• Provide technical direction and challenge solution approaches proposed by architects, data engineers, data scientists and other technical teams.
• Advise clients on the application of AI, GenAI and machine learning, connecting business requirements with appropriate data and technology solutions.
• Lead engagements within complex public sector environments, navigating governance requirements and working effectively across multiple stakeholders, agencies and vendors.
• Partner closely with architects, engineers, data scientists, business analysts and client teams to ensure solutions are practical, scalable and aligned with business objectives.
• Engage and influence senior and executive-level stakeholders, facilitate key decisions and resolve complex delivery or solution issues.
• Support solutioning and proposal development for Data & AI opportunities, including shaping delivery approaches, resource requirements and commercial considerations.
• Provide leadership, coaching and direction to multidisciplinary engagement teams.

To qualify for the role, you will need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline.
• At least 10 years of relevant professional experience, with significant experience in consulting or professional services delivering complex technology, Data & AI transformation programmes.
• Significant experience within consulting, professional services or a similar client-facing environment, leading complex technology, Data or AI transformation engagements.
• Proven experience leading large, multi-workstream programmes involving sizeable multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong experience working with public sector or government organisations, with an understanding of complex governance, stakeholder and multi-vendor environments.
• Strong knowledge of data architecture, data platforms, data engineering and analytics, with experience designing or architecting data solutions.
• Good understanding of AI, GenAI and machine learning concepts and solution approaches, including how these technologies can be applied to business problems.
• Ability to move comfortably between business conversations and technical solution discussions, translating requirements into practical Data & AI approaches.
• Strong engagement management disciplines covering programme governance, risk, dependencies, resourcing, financials/commercials and delivery management.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and communicate with senior and executive stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and solutioning skills, with the ability to challenge both business and technical assumptions.
• Consulting mindset with the versatility to move between client leadership, delivery management, solution architecture and team leadership.
• Experience delivering major Data & AI transformation programmes within government or the public sector.
• Hands-on experience earlier in your career within data architecture, data engineering, solution architecture or related technical disciplines.
• Experience with modern enterprise data and cloud platforms.
• Experience shaping AI/GenAI use cases and solutions from initial business problem through architecture and delivery.
• Experience working in complex environments involving multiple delivery partners, technology vendors and client stakeholder groups.
