About the Role
Our client is an applied R&D organisation building an open-source humanoid robot platform and the full software stack that powers it — spanning hardware architecture, locomotion, autonomy, simulation, and infrastructure. Their mission is to make humanoid labour economically viable, translating software into physical labour at scale. This is a rare opportunity to own meaningful, full-stack electrical engineering work that ships to real robots and contributes directly to the broader robotics community. If you are looking for a role where your work has tangible, real-world impact, this is it.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review schematics and PCB layouts for power distribution units, motor driver boards, and actuator control electronics
- Integrate wiring harnesses, PCBA enclosures, and motor controllers into mechanical assemblies from the ground up
- Lead bring-up of power systems, sensors, and actuator subassemblies; diagnose and resolve issues across multiple hardware revisions
- Define and execute electrical and system-level test protocols, analyse failure modes, and iterate designs based on test data
- Collaborate closely with firmware and controls teams to ensure electrical design decisions support stable, low-latency control loops
- Apply expertise in connector selection, grounding strategies, harness routing, and EMI suppression to deliver robust, field-reliable hardware
- Contribute to open-source design efforts, including PCB schematics and manufacturing documentation for the wider robotics community
Requirements
- 3 or more years of hands-on electrical engineering experience on high-complexity electromechanical products
- Solid understanding of motor drivers, sensors, and embedded hardware integration within electromechanical systems
- Deep familiarity with low-voltage (under 60V) DC power systems, DC-DC converters, MOSFET gate drivers, current-sense amplifiers, and passive network design
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and CAN/UART sniffers for in-depth hardware debugging
- Strong communication skills with the ability to drive alignment across firmware, mechanical, and leadership stakeholders
- Experience with bipedal or humanoid robot hardware, or legged locomotion platforms (is a bonus)
- Familiarity with CAN bus, motor controllers, and how electrical design choices affect firmware and control integration (is a bonus)
- Scripting experience in Python for hardware automation and data analysis (is a bonus)
- Familiarity with sim-to-real workflows and how hardware decisions affect locomotion policy training and transfer (is a bonus)
