Position Summary

The Director, EHS Center of Excellence (CoE), is responsible for establishing, governing, and continuously improving DayOne's global Environmental, Health & Safety management framework across all operational and construction business units. This role serves as the global authority for EHS standards, management systems, certification programs, contractor governance, audit assurance, and regulatory best practices. The Director will lead the development and deployment of standardized EHS programs, minimum requirements, performance assurance systems, contractor qualification processes, and certification initiatives to ensure consistent implementation across all regions. The role will work closely with regional EHS teams, project delivery teams, operations teams, procurement, and business leaders to drive EHS excellence, regulatory compliance, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Global EHS Standards & Governance
    • Develop, maintain, and continuously enhance DayOne Global EHS Management System (EHSMS).
    • Establish global EHS policies, standards, procedures, guidelines, and minimum requirements applicable across all regions and business units.
    • Define governance frameworks to ensure consistent implementation of EHS expectations throughout the organization.
    • Lead periodic reviews and revisions of corporate EHS standards to align with evolving regulations, industry best practices, customer requirements, and business needs.
    • Develop standardized EHS tools, templates, reporting requirements, and performance measurement systems.
  2. Management Systems & Certification
    • Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other relevant certification programs.
    • Serve as corporate owner for all EHS certifications and related management systems.
    • Coordinate external certification audits, surveillance audits, and recertification activities.
    • Conduct management reviews and oversee closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
    • Benchmark DayOne EHS management systems against industry best practices and leading data center operators.
    • Support future certification initiatives required by customers, investors, or regulatory authorities.
  3. General Contractor (GC) Governance & Assurance
    • Develop and maintain the global General Contractor EHS Qualification and Pre-Qualification Program.
    • Establish minimum EHS and ESG requirements for contractor selection and engagement.
    • Lead contractor onboarding programs to ensure alignment with DayOne EHS expectations.
    • Develop contractor performance evaluation methodologies and governance frameworks.
    • Oversee contractor EHS performance monitoring, trend analysis, and corrective action management.
    • Partner with Procurement, Legal, and Project Delivery teams to strengthen contractor risk management practices.
  4. Global Audit & Assurance Program
    • Develop and implement a risk-based Global EHS Audit and Surveillance Program.
    • Establish audit protocols, methodologies, checklists, and scoring systems.
    • Lead corporate audits of construction projects, operational data centers, and contractor activities.
    • Monitor closure of audit findings, observations, and corrective actions.
    • Analyze audit trends and identify systemic improvement opportunities.
    • Provide independent assurance to senior leadership regarding EHS performance and compliance maturity.
  5. EHS Capability Development
    • Establish global EHS competency frameworks for employees, contractors, and leadership teams.
    • Develop EHS training, awareness, and certification programs.
    • Create onboarding requirements for newly appointed EHS personnel and key operational stakeholders.
    • Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives and global EHS communities of practice.
    • Promote a culture of learning, accountability, and operational excellence.
  6. Incident Learning & Continuous Improvement
    • Establish corporate incident reporting, investigation, and lessons-learned frameworks.
    • Lead reviews of significant incidents, high-potential events, and regulatory matters.
    • Oversee root cause analysis methodologies and corrective action effectiveness reviews.
    • Publish global alerts, lessons learned, and best practice guidance.
    • Identify recurring trends and drive preventive programs across the organization.
  7. Performance Management & Reporting
    • Develop enterprise EHS KPIs, leading indicators, lagging indicators, and performance dashboards.
    • Establish benchmarking metrics across projects, regions, and business units.
    • Analyze organizational performance trends and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Prepare periodic reports and presentations for executive leadership, EHS Committees, customers, and Board-level stakeholders.
    • Support ESG and sustainability reporting related to EHS performance.
  8. Regulatory & Industry Engagement
    • Monitor emerging EHS regulations and industry developments globally.
    • Develop compliance strategies to address evolving regulatory requirements.
    • Engage with external industry associations, certification bodies, regulators, customers, and consultants.
    • Represent DayOne in EHS industry forums, working groups, and customer assurance engagements.
Leadership Responsibilities

Lead and develop the Global EHS Center of Excellence team. Provide technical guidance and strategic support to Regional EHS Managers and site teams. Foster collaboration across EHS, Operations, Construction, Procurement, HR, Legal, and Corporate Functions. Drive a culture of EHS excellence, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Education Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related discipline. Master's Degree preferred. Professional Certifications Certified Safety Professional (CSP), NEBOSH Diploma, CRSP, WSHO, or equivalent. ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certification preferred. Experience Minimum 15 years of progressive EHS experience. Minimum 8 years in a senior leadership or corporate governance role. Experience managing EHS programs across multiple countries and regions. Demonstrated experience implementing ISO management systems and certification programs. Extensive experience developing contractor governance, qualification, and audit programs. Experience supporting large-scale construction and critical infrastructure/data center operations is highly desirable. Competencies Strategic leadership and business partnership.
