Job Overview

The EDC Singapore branch office is seeking a motivated and resourceful person to join our ESG team as an Environmental and Social (E&S) Risk Advisor for the Indo-Pacific region. The ESG team is responsible for helping fulfill EDC’s commitments to conduct business in a responsible and ethical manner and integrate our ESG values into the business we do. The E&S Risk Advisor will conduct due diligence on the businesses we support for our customers doing business or looking to expand into the Indo-Pacific region. Our vision for this role is to be an integral part of the business team to help manage relationships with our customers and partners, guiding them on their ESG journey and ensuring this journey reflects the E&S risks in their business. The role will be supported through close collaboration with the head office ESG group in Ottawa.

This is an opportunity for a resourceful E&S risk analyst who can build strong relationships with EDC clients in the Indo-Pacific region, EDC business teams, and ESG colleagues whether based in Singapore, the Asia Pacific Region, or Canada, and who thrives in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the assessment of EDC transactions, identifying material E&S risks and recommending key mitigants for EDC’s financing and insurance transactions, applying relevant international standards such as the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, and UNGPs.
  2. Analyze and determine the adequacy of ESIA, ESDD reports, monitoring reports, thematic reports (e.g., biodiversity, archaeology, human rights), environmental and social action plans (ESAPs), audit reports, consultant terms of reference, requests for proposals, and E&S-related policies to manage risks and promote alignment with best practices and standards.
  3. Collaborate with EDC business teams to negotiate environmental and social commitments in financing documentation to address risks.
  4. Manage relationships with stakeholders, including internal and external clients, co-lenders, IFIs, DFIs, ECAs, and consultants, building trust and credibility.
  5. Conduct site visits within the Indo-Pacific region to assess E&S capacity and performance (typically 1-6 days, 1-5 times per year).
  6. Monitor transaction/project performance over time, resolving issues of non-compliance with E&S commitments.
  7. Advise management on E&S issues, making technical recommendations to improve transaction performance.
  8. Produce and edit documents for risk management committees, business teams, senior management, and external clients.
  9. Provide expert advice on the interpretation and application of ESRM policies and procedures.
  10. Maintain deep knowledge of ESRM policies, standards, and relevant regulations to ensure compliance.
  11. Develop understanding of EDC’s mandate and strategic focus in the Indo-Pacific to identify opportunities for advancing sustainability.
  12. Support EDC on non-transaction E&S interactions with external stakeholders as needed.
Screening Criteria
  • Degree in environmental or social sciences, environmental management, risk management, climate change, biodiversity, water resources, international development, sustainable development, human rights, gender studies, occupational health and safety, community relations & resettlement, law, or engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of ESIA and due diligence principles, frameworks, and standards, including the Equator Principles and IFC Performance Standards.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage stakeholder relationships.
  • 7-10 years’ experience in ESIA or ESDD, or relevant industry experience in sectors like extractive industries, agrifoods, clean tech, renewable energy, infrastructure, etc.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines managing multiple tasks.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, capable of conveying complex issues clearly.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.
  • Ability to work independently and across geographies and time zones.
Assets
  • Expertise in social or biodiversity impact assessments.
  • Experience as an independent E&S consultant or with international finance institutions.
  • Proficiency in additional Indo-Pacific languages.
  • Degree or training in Business, Finance, or related fields.
Salary Range
  • ESG Risk Management 18: $113,250 - $188,750 + performance bonus
  • ESG Risk Management 19: $142,250 - $237,500 + performance bonus
Eligibility
  • Legal eligibility to work in Singapore (Citizens or Permanent Residents preferred). Must meet security screening requirements.
