The Role

The Head of Projects & Store Design is responsible for leading the planning, development, and execution of all physical retail projects — including new store openings, renovations, and closures — across our Cold Storage & Giant stores. This role oversees end-to-end project and design management, ensuring that every store build reflects the company’s operational requirements, brand identity, and customer expectations. The position requires strong technical expertise in project delivery, and a forward-thinking approach to retail design and development.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Management

• Develop and implement overall plans for construction and store design in alignment with corporate goals.
• Lead the long-term planning and execution of new stores, store remodels, and closures.
• Create and manage budgets for all construction and design activities, ensuring efficiency and cost control.
• Manage the annual capital expenditure budget for store development, ensuring accurate forecasting and tracking of project costs.
• Establish project timelines and ensure adherence, proactively addressing risks and issues.
• Lead cost reduction initiatives through design rationalization, procurement strategies, and process efficiencies.

Project Management

• Set project governance and performance frameworks to ensure projects meet targets for cost, quality, safety, and timelines.
• Communicate project status, challenges, and solutions effectively to senior management and stakeholders.
• Lead the Projects & Design Team, ensuring projects stay on track with budgets and timelines while meeting quality and safety standards.
• Foster strong relationships with external vendors and regulatory bodies for smooth project execution.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards across all projects.
• Conduct post-project reviews to benchmark performance and identify opportunities for cost and process improvements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of project and design managers/executives.
