This role is to handle day-to-day horse care and stable operations, ensuring the wellness and welfare of horses and the proper maintenance of stable facilities.
Groom is to provide daily basic needs to horses such as food, fresh water, and grooming (wet or dry, e.g., cleaning and clipping horses’ coats). This includes providing good living conditions to the horses through the daily maintenance and cleaning of horse stalls (i.e., replacing bedding, mucking stables), and regularly checking the areas surrounding the stable for any irregularities.
Groom is to assist in the preparation of horses for the Equine Programme (i.e., donning of riding equipment, grooming activity, riding, dismounting, tacking, untacking, grooming, and hosing down after lesson or exercise, etc.). The role of Groom also includes the maintenance of riding equipment (i.e., bridle, saddles, and saddle pads) in the Tack Room, besides monitoring and updating the Supervisor on the supply of feed and hay stocks in the Stable Supply storage area.
It is the responsibility of the Groom to regularly check the horses and immediately report any abnormalities, incidents, accidents on horses (i.e., stalls defect, water supply, feeding issue, facilities, and equipment etc.). Groom is required to be on-call in cases of emergencies related to the horses and responsible for cleaning and administering medications to minor wounds, cuts, abrasions, bruises, etc., as directed by the Stable & Operations Supervisor, subject to prior instructions from the attending Veterinarian. Aside from the routine, Groom shall only institute any treatment/ medications that are approved by the Stable & Operations Supervisor and the Veterinarian.
Groom is to work 8 hours from Monday to Sunday with 2 hours lunch break and 2 rest days in a week. This role reports to the Stable & Operations Supervisor and works closely with the Animal Welfare & Operations team members, led by the Head of Animal Welfare & Operations. Groom is to assist in other activities/ works as instructed by the Reporting Officer.
