Job description

Responsibilities:

Underwriting

Assist the Head and work with own Team Leader and members to:

  1. Review and prepare underwriting / renewal information.
  2. Prepare Marine Raters for discussion with Team Leader / Head.
  3. Underwrite simpler risks and maintain a profitable book of Marine Cargo business.
  4. Prepare quotation slips after finalization with Team Leader / Head.
  5. Attend to queries or mid-term changes from existing accounts.
  6. Liaise with intermediaries and follow up on new quotations and renewals.
  7. Ensure timely and proper passing down of instructions to Policy Administration with the required information / documentation.
  8. Ensure that sanction checks are conducted.
  9. Handle the checking of policies and broking slips.
  10. Update and maintain records, schedules, statistics, etc.
  11. Assist the Head and own Team Leader to compile, analyze, and prepare monthly reports required for meetings and business reviews.
  12. Ensure that acceptable pricing and terms are determined within own underwriting authority and guidelines for new business and renewals.
  13. Ensure acceptable loss ratio through account stewardship, loss control activities, and tracking and following up on large claims and related activities.
  14. Evaluate facultative reinsurance needs and coordinate as necessary within company underwriting and risk control guidelines.
  15. Stay current on competition, underwriting environment, and market conditions; share findings and updates with team members as appropriate.

Requirements:

  1. ACII, ANZIIF or Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Insurance, Business, or Maritime with CGI.
  2. Minimum 4 years’ experience in Marine insurance underwriting with direct intermediary engagement / technical underwriting.
  3. Knowledge of Marine insurance operations, underwriting procedures, and understanding of Marine Cargo classes, products, and policy wordings.
