The Senior/Operations Supervisor will support the setup of end-to-end production operations within the manufacturing facility to achieve productivity targets and objectives in a reliable, efficient, and cost-effective manner, while meeting Quality and Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) regulations and other standards.
The Senior/Operations Supervisor is a First Line Leader (FLL) responsible for:
- Managing and supervising a team of biotechnologists
- Leading the team in completing operational steps, batch deliveries, and project deliverables
- Providing guidance and technical expertise to the team
- Making sound technical decisions regarding process issues on the shopfloor
- Supporting process transfer activities, including from Belgium RX59 to Singapore Tuas for Hepatitis B (HBV) drug substances production
This role reports to the Operations Lead and supports related tasks.
Responsibilities
Participate in and execute commissioning and qualification activities.
- Operations Management: Support the setup of manufacturing activities including media preparation, manufacturing of intermediates and drug substances, and resource optimization
- Ensure compliance with cGMP and safety standards
- Meet project milestones and deliverables
- Support equipment sourcing, process design, and documentation (SOPs, checklists, OJTs, WRA)
- Identify areas for improvement and participate in continuous improvement projects
- Support planning, scheduling, and resource management
- Manage team morale, discipline, and well-being
- Conduct performance reviews and support career development
- Ensure effective use of GSK Production System (GPS), Capacity Management (CAPMAN), and continuous improvement initiatives
- Act as backup operator when needed
Leadership and Technology Transfer
Coach and guide team members and participate in new technology or process transfers.
Environment, Health, Safety, and Wellness
Ensure safe operations, identify safety risks, support audits, and manage work permits.
Training and Development
Ensure team training per the training matrix, support onboarding, develop SME expertise, and facilitate knowledge transfer.
Interdepartmental Interface
Develop good relationships with other departments to ensure timely delivery of objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Engineering or Science
- Minimum 10 years in pharmaceutical manufacturing or 4 years relevant experience
- Experience in downstream purification and chromatography
- Knowledge of cGMP, SAP, and biotechnology equipment
- Strong troubleshooting, people management, communication, and organization skills
- Continuous improvement mindset and conflict management skills
