Job description

As a member of a trans-disciplinary team in the Early Intervention Continuum (EIC) Programme, the Psychologist (EIC) will play an instrumental role in psycho-educational assessment, intervention, consultation and staff/caregiver education/training to support children enrolled in the different SPD EIC centres.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct psycho-educational assessment for school placement, and suggest intervention strategies and educational placement/s to facilitate/support ongoing learning and development.
  • Work closely with team comprising Speech and Language Therapists (SLT), Occupational Therapists (OT), Social Workers (SW), EI-trained Teachers and Parents to discuss and profile the learning needs of the children referred to EI programmes.
  • Assess, develop and implement appropriate intervention strategies through Individualised Educational Plan with the team
  • Engage, collaborate and work closely with caregivers in both the early intervention programmes and home environment.
  • Conduct psycho-therapy for children with mild emotional difficulties.
  • Ensure regular assessment / monitoring of child’s progress and right- siteing.
  • Conduct transitional planning from one educational setting to another, as required.
  • Support the setting and achievement of suitable IEP goals, and the generalisation of strategies back into the classroom. Support parents to help their child with intervention strategies at home.
  • Support the updates and consistent documentation of psychological interventions for children identified in the various EI programmes.
  • Plan and coordinate psychological services, workshops for Parents/Teachers, etc. as and when the need arises.
  • Contribute, implement and evaluate ideas and suggestions for the improvement of services for children identified in the various EI programmes with the EIPIC team.
  • Engage, collaborate and work closely with various stakeholders in providing accessible early intervention programmes for EI children.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies and procedures set within the programme.
  • Review programmes and services together with team to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of services provided under EIPIC programme.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

  • Provide consultation as needed to EI team in developing conducive learning environment appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students with various learning and developmental needs.

PROFESSIONAL / STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • Provide supervision to practicum students, when necessary.
  • To attend relevant training and courses.
  • To attain/maintain credential of Registered Psychologist (Singapore).
  • To attend and contribute regularly to staff meetings, EIPIC and centre meetings, clinical supervision, psychology team meetings, and any other meetings as and when necessary.To be involved in networking with other community organisations.
  • To participate in events organised / supported by SPD or research projects as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENT

  • At least a recognised Master’s degree in Educational or Clinical Psychology.
  • Preferably, the psychologist should be registered, or eligible in the near future for registration, with the Singapore Psychological Society (SPS) as a Registered Psychologist (Singapore).
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build relationships.
  • Good organisation and planning skills.
  • Familiar with ordinary preschool curriculum and with experience supporting centres in engaging children with special needs
