Purpose and Scope

The HSSE Lead will be responsible for overseeing and driving the governance and performance of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) initiatives within the Gas Business, ensuring alignment with company policies and industry regulations. This role will work closely with the HSSE leads across the Gas Business to ensure proper reporting, compliance, and continuous improvement in HSSE performance.

As part of the Center of Excellence (CoE) division, the HSSE Lead will collaborate with internal teams to develop, implement, and monitor HSSE strategies that foster a culture of safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship across all operational areas. The role will report to the Market CoE Head and work closely with business unit (BU) leadership to ensure that HSSE performance and governance are aligned with overall organizational objectives.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

HSSE Governance and Oversight:

  • Lead the development and implementation of robust HSSE governance frameworks across the Gas Business, ensuring all HSSE initiatives comply with internal policies and industry standards.

  • Ensure that HSSE leads across the Gas Business units are properly reporting performance and compliance metrics, and are executing HSSE strategies effectively.

  • Provide regular oversight and support to ensure HSSE programs are being adhered to, and ensure that HSSE performance meets company and regulatory expectations.

Collaboration with HSSE Leads:

  • Work closely with the HSSE Leads across the Gas Business to ensure seamless coordination of HSSE practices, sharing best practices, and ensuring that HSSE goals are aligned across all business units.

  • Provide leadership and support to the HSSE teams to address safety concerns, incidents, and ensure prompt corrective actions and continuous improvements are implemented.

Reporting and Performance Monitoring:

  • Oversee the creation and review of HSSE reports for senior leadership, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and timely submission of all relevant metrics and data.

  • Ensure accurate tracking and accounting of HSSE performance, incidents, and audits, providing the necessary governance and accountability to the BU Head and senior leadership.

  • Track and analyze trends in HSSE performance, identifying areas for improvement and working with stakeholders to implement corrective measures.

Strategy Development and Continuous Improvement:

  • Lead the development of HSSE strategies and initiatives to reduce risks, enhance safety culture, and meet sustainability goals within the Gas Business.

  • Work with the leadership team to integrate HSSE considerations into business plans, operational activities, and strategic decisions.

  • Champion continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities for enhancing safety protocols, environmental practices, and operational efficiency in HSSE.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure that all HSSE-related activities are in full compliance with local, regional, and international regulations, and any industry-specific standards.

  • Work with the risk management team to identify and assess HSSE risks and ensure the implementation of effective risk mitigation strategies.

  • Lead audits, inspections, and reviews of HSSE compliance across the Gas Business, taking corrective actions as necessary to close gaps in compliance or performance.

Training and Development:

  • Ensure that HSSE training programs are regularly updated and that all employees in the Gas Business are well-equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their duties safely and responsibly.

  • Provide training and mentorship to HSSE leads and teams, fostering a strong HSSE culture across the organization.

Emergency Response and Incident Management:

  • Ensure that proper emergency response plans and procedures are in place and that all personnel are trained to act effectively in the event of a crisis or incident.

  • Lead or support investigations of HSSE incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring that root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Additional certifications or training in HSSE management is a plus.

  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in HSSE roles, with a focus on managing HSSE programs within the energy, gas, or industrial sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of HSSE regulations, standards, and industry best practices.

  • Proven experience in governance, compliance, and reporting within HSSE functions.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.

  • Experience in training, mentoring, and developing HSSE teams.

  • In-depth understanding of HSSE regulations and standards within the gas and energy industry.

  • Leadership and team management capabilities, with the ability to guide, mentor, and inspire HSSE teams across multiple units.

  • Strong reporting, documentation, and performance monitoring skills.

  • Ability to integrate safety culture into business practices and operational workflows.
