Job description

Binnies UK, part of the RSK Group, is currently looking for experienced Senior Quantity Surveyors.

This senior-level position supports site staff by leading all commercial and procurement aspects of a project. The role ensures site teams operate in accordance with contract requirements, site and company procedures, and reporting systems. Responsibilities include procuring subcontract packages, administering contract documentation, compiling complex project cost/budget reports, maintaining cash flow, and providing support for commercial, contractual, procurement, and financial services. The Senior Quantity Surveyor resolves commercial, contractual, and construction problems and ensures prompt payments to subcontractors.

As part of the project leadership team, the role involves taking responsibility for the direction and execution of the Quantity Surveying functions on allocated contracts from tender to final account, in line with Business Management Systems to maximize quality of service and profitability. Key duties include:

  1. Interpreting and understanding the obligations, responsibilities, and liabilities of the contract parties, including contract estimates and settlement adjustments.
  2. Issuing required Notices and contractual correspondence, pursuing Variations, Claims, and other entitlements for final account settlement.
  3. Producing and implementing the project procurement plan according to delivery strategy and timescales.
  4. Managing subcontract procurement, including issuing tender documents, assessing bids, negotiating prices and conditions, and preparing subcontract documents.
  5. Managing subcontract work packages, including documentation, negotiations, and assessments.
  6. Resolving non-complex commercial, contractual, and construction issues.
  7. Submitting financial reports such as valuations, CVRs, forecasts, cash flow projections, and turnover reports by deadlines.
  8. Ensuring adherence to commercial procedures and reporting systems by all delivery staff.
  9. Reporting and mitigating project risks as part of the team.
  10. Submitting applications for payment, issuing invoices, and securing prompt payments.
  11. Maintaining the company's good reputation with clients, suppliers, and the public.
  12. Participating in creating a safe working environment.
  13. Developing and implementing recovery action plans when needed.
  14. Providing contractual, commercial, procurement, and financial advice to the delivery team.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, or substantial in-role experience.
  • Working towards professional accreditation (RICS, CICES, etc.) is desirable.

Key Requirements:

  • Knowledge of contract responsibilities.
  • Understanding of the construction process and water/wastewater treatment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and lead a team.
  • Proficiency with software including MS Office.
