Qualifications

  • Must hold a valid security guard license recognized by the relevant State.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.

Job description

Position Purpose

The responsibility of a Maritime Security Guard (MSG Level 4) working at a security-regulated port is to protect the integrity and safety of all established maritime zones where approved Maritime Security Plans are enforced. This must be done in compliance with MTOFSA rules and regulations, the approved maritime security plan, and the site traffic management plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Controlling access into a maritime zone (both persons and vehicles) in accordance with MTOFSA.
  • Internal and external foot and vehicle patrols.
  • Monitor WHS, CCTV surveillance and respond to various site alarms.
  • Checking emails, administration, and required reporting.
  • Provide perimeter security by ensuring there is no unauthorised access to the site or vulnerabilities to the physical and electronic security integrity of the Site perimeter.
  • Surveillance and monitoring of all entry gates, Screening Areas, Site buildings and grounds via CCTV, access control system, and the visitor management system process.
  • Respond to alarms generated by access systems, fire systems, building management control systems, CCTV systems, and any issues raised by staff or contractors.
  • Issue of staff security, contractor and visitor access cards and passes, and ensuring card management is done at the appropriate approved access level.
  • Traffic control – pedestrian and vehicle gates, intercoms, parking areas.
  • Provide daily communications diary, event logs, incident reports, breaches, foot patrol reports, readings, alarms, and any checks.
  • Promptly identify and prevent illegal and/or inappropriate behavior, which has the potential to result in damage to property and/or persons. Report any such security risks to the client contact and supervisor.
  • Respond to on-site medical, First Aid, and other emergencies as required.
  • Perform on-site Emergency Siren and Fire Alarm testing.
  • Practice and implement health and safety processes, including risk assessments.
Qualifications
Mandatory Qualifications
  • A Certificate II in Security Operations.
  • State current and applicable Security license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
  • Must hold a license to work as a security guard, issued or recognized by the relevant State or Territory and in force.
  • Occupational First Aid – Level 3.
  • Current Valid driving license – as required.

  • Maritime Security industries background.
  • Security industry.
Experience
  • Experienced as an MSG or working in a busy Gatehouse role.
  • Previous CCTV monitoring experience will be highly regarded.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Ability and experience writing detailed incident reports.
  • Experience using access control systems.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
