Job description

The System Engineer is responsible for providing advanced technical support, system administration, and proactive problem-solving. The role involves resolving incidents escalated from L1/Helpdesk, managing routine system administration tasks, and ensuring the stability and performance of IT systems. The engineer will also be involved in system upgrades, migrations, and collaborating closely with vendors to resolve complex issues. This role requires a proactive approach to continuous service improvement and mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot end-user devices that cannot be resolved by the helpdesk. Escalate unresolved issues to the next level or vendor in accordance with the agreed SLAs.
  • Perform routine system administrative activities, including monitoring morning checklists for all key technologies.
  • Check backups and physical status of all equipment within server/network rooms. Monitor server availability, instance availability, and disk space utilization.
  • Analyze technical issues to provide permanent solutions and implement change requests. Create and manage problem management reports and participate in stability analysis and continuous service improvements.
  • Manage and execute system upgrades and migrations for both hardware and software. Work closely with vendors to resolve vendor-related issues until resolution is achieved.
  • Manage IT procurement and inventory, including asset movement, preparation of client devices, and scheduling of devices. Coordinate with relevant teams for any new processes or installations.
  • Monitor metric alerts and address performance-related issues, including high CPU utilization, application performance, and high memory utilization. Perform application tuning, query tuning, and manage system performance for optimal operation.
  • Manage and secure all credentials and sensitive documents. Work with the AV team to resolve any AV/IT-related issues.
  • Identify potential problems in advance and work on continuous service improvements. Participate in management, prioritization, minor enhancements, fix activities, and problem management.
  • Provide advanced configuration and troubleshooting for all technologies, including servers, VMs, Hyper-V, VDI, and disaster recovery (DR) related problems. Troubleshoot alert logs, transaction logs, and backup logs.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in IT support, system administration, or a similar role, with a focus on L2 support.
  • Strong knowledge of MDM solutions such as JAMF, Intune, etc. Proficiency in advanced troubleshooting for servers, VMs, Hyper-V, VDI, and related technologies.
  • Experience with monitoring tools, performance tuning, and IT infrastructure management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teams and vendors.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving issues, with a focus on continuous improvement.
