Job description

To be part of the Malay News and Current Affairs News/Assignments team contributing towards production of daily news bulletins and/or specials (long-forms) across all platforms.

You will support day-to-day operations by:

  • Reviewing news stories/ features and deciding those that should go into the news bulletin/digital platforms/Current Affair programs
  • Conceptualize and plan editorial content together with the Executive Producers
  • Assigning news stories and/or features to sub-editors/producers and guiding them on how to approach the stories
  • Proofreading stories written by the team and maintaining the standard of written language
  • Copy-tasting to ensure that important stories are not missed
  • Take an active role in setting the editorial direction of the assigned unit
  • Participate in forward planning for important assignments/projects within the assigned unit
  • Develop and enhance professional competence by providing both constructive feedback as well as guidance to writers
  • Adhere to the policies and rules set by regulators by complying with and with editorial guidelines
  • Be able to interpret the guidelines and advise producers and reporters in compliance
  • Keep updated on news and current affairs and other assigned segments by monitoring viewers' feedback
  • Liaise with other news gathering departments in the Mediacorp network to maximise the use of company resources
  • Assist Chief Editor and Deputy Chief Editor in formulating strategy to expand viewer base, to improve operations and to achieve the corporate growth objectives
  • Lead/Participate in community engagement programs initiated by BERITA Mediacorp

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years' experience in journalism or media related fields
  • Degree either in Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies or Arts & Social Sciences
  • Good command of English and Malay language both spoken and written
  • Good sense of news and current affairs with strong interest in Singapore News
  • Familiarity with social media platforms used for news-gathering and community relations
  • Interest/knowledge in mobile reporting and its technologies
  • Good story-telling skills and visual sense
  • Good understanding in production codes and guidelines
  • Good TV production knowledge
