A Day in the Life
This role supports the Sr Director – International Tax, focusing on the Asia Pacific region, including Emerging Markets Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing all corporate tax matters for entities in the Asia Pacific region.
- Supporting the Corporate Tax team with quarterly tax reporting, analyses on FIN 48 positions, income tax and withholding tax rates, tax holiday checklists, tax audit logs, thin capitalization reviews, valuation allowances, etc.
- Assisting local Controllers to ensure proper accounting and external financial reporting of income taxes, including recognition and coordination of book and tax effects of events.
- Monitoring changes in local tax legislation, rulings, regulations, and litigation, and advising on responsive actions.
- Reviewing corporate income tax returns and payment requests prepared by local Controllers or external providers.
- Maintaining a tax calendar to ensure compliance with filing and payment deadlines across the region.
- Supporting the Sr Director with income tax queries, audits, and relationships with tax authorities, collaborating with Controllers and external advisors.
- Managing tax incentives and negotiations with government agencies.
- Developing and implementing corporate tax policies and strategies in collaboration with global teams.
- Addressing transfer pricing issues and supporting related documentation and agreements.
- Exploring strategies to improve effective tax rates for entities in the region.
- Managing permanent establishment risks with business units.
- Leading or supporting regional/global projects on compliance, documentation, and review processes.
- Influencing legislative changes where possible.
- Leading coordination for tax audits and controversy issues across the region.
- Identifying efficiencies in tax processes and reducing delivery costs.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of tax experience, including MNC and global tax issues.
- Graduate degree or higher and professional qualification.
- Experience managing teams and major projects.
- Strategic planning experience in a tax context.
- Experience dealing with tax authorities and senior executives.
- Experience managing external advisers.
- Experience in the Medtech industry is highly preferred.
- Deep understanding of regional tax compliance and planning, including restructurings, M&As.
- Knowledge of local GAAP and US GAAP.
- Transfer pricing and Pillar two expertise.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Professional, ethical, and culturally sensitive with strong communication skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
