Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Research Scientist in the Integrated Composite Processing Section. This position requires the applicant to lead and conduct research in advanced fibre-reinforced composites forming and moulding technology, study and characterization of composite structures. The scientist is required to support both industry and R&D projects where process innovation, structural testing, and material characterizations are needed. Experience in project management, grant writing, and patent applications will be advantageous. Basic knowledge of material circularity, CAD design, finite-element analysis, and algorithm development is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  1. Research on advanced short-fibre reinforced thermoplastic composites in multiple material systems.
  2. Work with a team of scientists and engineers to enhance the capability of compression moulding technology.
  3. Formulate scientific research directions and innovative proposals to secure funding.
  4. Understand the advanced manufacturing domain and provide innovative solutions to industry problems.
  5. Familiar with CAD and CAE tools, such as SolidWorks.
  6. Possess deep knowledge of a wide range of forming technologies for metals, composites, and polymers.
  7. Conduct mechanical tests, design testing tools/jigs, and perform material characterizations.
  8. Develop and test innovative solutions to optimize composite compression moulding processes.
  9. Prepare project progress updates and presentations for customers.
  10. Prepare research proposals, presentations, reports, conduct experiments, and file disclosures.
  11. Support process equipment setup, laboratory operations, and inventory management for export control items.
  12. Maintain detailed records of work orders, laboratory data, methods, results, and drawings.
  13. Perform well in both industry and research projects.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Material Science Engineering, or related fields.
  2. Strong fundamentals in materials science and mechanical engineering are preferred.
  3. Experience with composite moulding machine operations and troubleshooting.
  4. Proven record of publications in top journals and conferences.
