Job description

What the role is:

The role involves driving outreach and education initiatives for the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC). The key responsibilities include developing and implementing outreach strategies, creating cultural content, organising programmes and exhibitions, managing partnerships, overseeing volunteer engagement, and supporting marketing efforts. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in heritage or education, leadership experience and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive outreach strategy targeted at schools, youths, seniors, and the community
  • Lead the production of high-quality content on Malay culture and heritage for diverse audiences to increase awareness and appreciation
  • Coordinate the conceptualisation and organisation of community outreach programmes, educational activities, and travelling exhibitions to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the Malay Heritage Centre (MHC) and Malay culture
  • Maintain strategic partnerships with public and private sector organisations to expand MHC's reach and impact
  • Develop and manage the volunteer engagement, including with our docent groups to ensure adequate recruitment, training, and retention strategies
  • Support MHC's online presence and marketing communications activities, including collateral production and media relations
  • Collaborate closely with the Strategic Communications & Digital Division at NHB HQ to ensure alignment with broader organisational goals

Requirements

  • Background in Museum Studies, Heritage Management, Education, or a related field is preferred
  • Preferably minimum of five years of relevant working experience in heritage-related projects and/or education & outreach programmes, with at least two years in a leadership role
  • Strong passion and deep knowledge of both local and Malay history, culture, and heritage
  • Exceptional research, negotiation, communication, networking, and project management skills
  • Strategic thinking ability with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful outreach initiatives
  • Effectively bilingual in English and Malay, with the ability to liaise confidently with Malay-speaking partners and stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to inspire and guide a team
  • Adaptable and able to work outside of regular office hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays when required
