Job description

Research Assistant

A Research Assistant is required to support the planning and execution of various research projects on environmental communication, digital media, and online falsehoods under the Centre for Information Integrity and the Internet (IN-cube) at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI). The candidate must work closely with the Principal Investigator on qualitative and experimental research related to artificial intelligence (AI) and psychological responses to AI-based training programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Keeping track of expenditure and remaining budget in an organized manner, ensuring that the spend is optimized and on track with respect to goals set for the grant.
  2. Liaising with external vendors to purchase necessary equipment/materials for research studies, including specialized equipment, software, and research participant incentives.
  3. Leading the recruitment of participants for experiment sessions and focus groups.
  4. Managing students and Project Officers in conducting literature reviews.
  5. Planning the logistics for experiments and focus group sessions, such as scheduling, booking facilities, and preparing IRB documentation.
  6. Participating in data collection for qualitative (interviews, focus groups) and quantitative (experiments, surveys) studies.
  7. Analyzing data using tools such as SPSS, R, and/or Microsoft Excel.
  8. Preparing financial and progress reports, presentations, and other research-related documents.
  9. Drafting conference and journal submissions based on research findings.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication studies, information studies, or related social science fields.
  • Good project management skills with the ability to multitask.
  • Skills and basic training in quantitative and qualitative research methods for social sciences.
  • Academic writing skills are required.
  • Ability to run standard statistical tests (e.g., using SPSS, SAS, or R for regression, ANOVA, etc.).
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical tests (e.g., moderation/mediation, hierarchical regression) is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with faculty, staff, students, and external collaborators.
  • Past experience in a Research Assistant role is preferred.
