JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The role will be based in Hong Kong [or Singapore] and will be focused on the Equities business within Global Banking and Markets (GBM).

GBM includes the sales and trading businesses (including cash equities, listed options, equity derivatives, prime services, futures and facilitation) (ie Equities), fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC), and Private Investor Products Group (including retail and wholesale structured products).

This role will include providing advice and assistance to our traders and sales people on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters across Equities, with a focus on supporting the prime services business. The prime services business ("Prime") comprises the prime brokerage business which provides trading, financing and other services to the hedge fund client segment, and the futures business which provides futures trading and clearing services across the major APAC futures markets to a broad client base including hedge funds, banks, broker dealers and other financial counterparties and, governments and corporates.

Key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing legal advice to the Prime business and other equities businesses in the region as needed, and assisting with related agreements and other documentation;
  • Advising on regulatory matters impacting the Equities business (including global and local regulations and relevant exchange rules) and keeping abreast of relevant changes in law or regulation;
  • Assisting with the maintenance of precedent legal documentation and negotiation of core client agreements;
  • Working with the GBM Compliance team on regulatory matters and investigations. There may also be opportunities to become involved in training and policy work, including representing the firm in discussions with industry bodies;
  • Assisting in the preparation of materials for submission to regional and global committees; and
  • Liaising with Legal and Compliance personnel at Goldman Sachs locally, regionally and globally on issues relating to GBM.

The role requires the ability to work independently and to manage a diverse and complex workload meeting tight deadlines. Lawyers in our team work closely with a diverse group of clients across our trading floors and thrive on the pressures of delivering consistently high quality advice to a dynamic, and constantly evolving, business.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified lawyers with minimum 5 years PQE;
  • Relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel;
  • An ability to demonstrate a strong grounding in securities law and regulation;
  • Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks in the major global financial markets;
  • Experience in equity derivatives, market access products, securities lending and/or secured financing will also be an advantage;
