The National Research Foundation (NRF) is a department within the Prime Minister's Office, responsible for setting the national direction for research, innovation, and enterprise (RIE). This includes developing policies, plans, and strategies; funding strategic initiatives to enhance scientific and technological capabilities; growing RIE talent; and fostering collaboration both locally and internationally.
The NRF was established on 1 January 2006 as a department under the Prime Minister's Office. Its roles include providing secretariat support to the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC), coordinating research efforts across agencies to ensure strategic coherence, developing policies to implement the national R&D agenda, and allocating funding to meet strategic objectives.
