Job description

Research Assistant Job Description

The Research Assistant provides technical support to our research, diagnostic laboratories, and aquaculture projects.

Responsibilities
  1. Work collaboratively with the project team, industry partners, research agencies, and across the University.
  2. Understand Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) and animal ethics legislation.
  3. Provide significant input toward management of laboratory resources, including:
  • Maintaining documents and records in compliance with quality assurance in ISO-accredited laboratories.
  • Managing receipt, case reference assignment, storage, processing, and testing of research and diagnostic samples.
  • Procurement and maintaining stock inventories of consumables and chemicals.
  • Managing equipment servicing in compliance with ISO accreditation requirements.
  • Support research activities and diagnostic capabilities to meet project objectives, including:
    • Ensuring accurate record keeping, data integrity, and sample collection in laboratory and field studies.
    • Attaining proficiency in laboratory analyses of research and diagnostic samples.
    • Managing experimental animals and facilities according to Singapore NACLAR requirements.
    • Occasional weekend work may be required.
    Key Selection Criteria
    Essential
    • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in aquaculture, biological sciences, marine science, zoology, or related discipline.
    • Experience in standard laboratory techniques, with proficiency in molecular techniques and/or histoprocessing.
    • Successful experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Flexibility to work hours and weekends as required.
    Desirable
    • Experience in aquatic animal husbandry for research or production.
    • Understanding of data recording and analysis for scientific publication.
    • Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.

    Please note: We cannot facilitate work visa applications for this role. This is a 5-month contract, renewable based on operational needs and performance.
