Job description

We are looking for a highly competent and detail-oriented Dangerous Goods (DG) Manager for one of our global shipping clients. This key role is responsible for ensuring the safe and compliant handling of hazardous cargo in accordance with international maritime regulations and internal company policies. The successful candidate will oversee DG operations across global shipping routes, collaborate closely with international stakeholders, and manage a team of DG specialists. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a DG Specialist within a shipping company, with a strong grasp of IMDG Code requirements and managerial experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all DG cargo is reviewed and approved in accordance with the IMDG Code and internal company guidelines.
  • Lead and support a team of DG specialists that is responsible for:
  • Verifying the authenticity and accuracy of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Checking chemical content and classification of DG and special non-DG cargo (e.g., batteries, carbon)
  • Validating packaging compliance and co-loading rules based on IMDG Code
  • Confirming cargo acceptance with vessels and transit ports
  • Monitor and review internal DG policies on a regular basis and ensure alignment with industry updates (e.g., CINS guidelines).
  • Respond to inquiries related to DG applications and provide accurate assessments on acceptance status.
  • Collaborate with the Global Operations team to ensure safe, legal, and timely transport of DG cargo.
  • Support additional operational duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Maritime Studies or related discipline.
  • Certified in Dangerous Goods handling; strong knowledge of the IMDG Code.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a DG-focused role within a shipping company.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
  • Proactive and able to perform in fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to be on call outside office hours.
