Job description

Research Associate (Transport Engineering / Maritime Transport and Management / Computer Science)

A Research Associate position in Maritime Studies is available at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). The start date is flexible. The appointment is typically for 1 year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to, data analytics in maritime studies, big data in shipping, shipping and port management, and green shipping management. Other related research topics are also welcome.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop innovative models and algorithms to enhance port and shipping management efficiency;
  2. Propose data analytics and operations research solutions for maritime practical problems;
  3. Create mathematical models to represent real-world problems and select appropriate solution methods;
  4. Conduct numerical experiments to validate the performance of proposed models;
  5. Present research findings through academic papers and reports.

Job Requirements:

  1. Master's degree in transport engineering, maritime transport and management, computer science, or a related field from a reputable university;
  2. Excellent programming skills in Python, C++, Java, Julia, or other competent languages;
  3. Strong publication record in reputable peer-reviewed journals or conferences related to maritime transport, logistics management, machine learning, deep learning, and optimization;
  4. Proficiency in written and spoken English for data analysis and stakeholder communication;
  5. Experience in proposal writing and funding applications is a plus.
