Job description

Founded in Switzerland in 1968, Zühlke is owned by its partners and located across Europe and Asia. We are a global transformation partner, with engineering and innovation in our DNA. We're trusted to help clients envision and build their businesses for the future – to run smarter today while adapting for tomorrow’s markets, customers, and communities. Our multidisciplinary teams specialise in tech strategy and business innovation, digital solutions and applications, and device and systems engineering. We excel in complex, regulated spaces including health and finance, connecting strategy, tech implementation, and operational services to help clients become more effective, resilient businesses.

If you share our values and want to do the best work, for the right reasons, we can offer you the chance to do it on a global scale and play a real role in shaping our exciting journey.

About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and experienced UI/UX Consultant to join our team and work on impactful digital solutions for government agencies, local authorities, and technology-driven projects. This unique position requires a professional with a strong background in both the public sector and the tech industry, allowing you to bridge the gap between efficient, user-centric design and the specific needs of governmental processes and digital innovation.

As a UI/UX Consultant, you will play a crucial role in designing intuitive, innovative, and accessible digital interfaces that enhance the user experience for citizens and government employees alike, while also leveraging best practices and technologies from the tech industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive user research, including surveys, interviews, focus groups, and user testing, with a focus on understanding both citizens' needs in the public sector and the dynamic demands of the tech industry. Analyse and synthesise data to produce actionable insights.
  • Design user-friendly, responsive, and aesthetically engaging digital interfaces for web and mobile applications across both public sector and tech-related projects. Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity design mockups that cater to diverse user needs.
  • Collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, tech developers, content strategists, and project managers. Translate business and user requirements into innovative design solutions that meet both the public sector's and tech industry's unique challenges.
  • Lead the development of UX strategies for digital transformation projects in government and tech, aiming to optimise service delivery, increase user satisfaction, and enhance digital accessibility.
  • Conduct usability testing and gather feedback from real users in both governmental and tech environments. Iteratively refine designs based on user feedback and performance data to improve overall user experience.
  • Develop and maintain design systems for government technology projects, ensuring consistency and scalability across all digital products and services.
  • Document design workflows, user personas, journey maps, wireframes, and prototypes. Provide regular progress reports to stakeholders, ensuring alignment on design direction and project goals.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant government regulations, accessibility standards (WCAG), and privacy requirements. Apply best practices from the tech industry to ensure seamless, inclusive, and secure digital experiences.

Nice to Have:

Familiarity with government digital transformation initiatives or experience in designing for e-Government projects, citizen engagement platforms, or public service delivery systems.

Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver iterative designs.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a UI/UX Designer or Consultant, with hands-on experience servicing the public sector (government or local authorities/agencies).
  • Experience working on projects within government or local authority agencies, with a clear understanding of public sector goals, challenges, and service delivery processes.
  • Proven experience designing user interfaces, working with innovative technologies, startups, or established tech companies. Familiarity with modern web and mobile app technologies is essential.
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools including Figma, Sketch, and if equipped with other design application working experiences i.e. Adobe XD, InVision, Axure, and others. Familiarity with version control tools and design systems is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of user-centered design principles and methodologies, including user research, persona development, user flows, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing.
  • Strong understanding of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) and government standards for digital accessibility. Knowledge of data privacy and security regulations in public sector is an added advantage (not essential).
  • Experience working in agile environments, collaborating with cross-functional teams of developers, stakeholders, and content strategists to deliver high-quality, user-friendly solutions.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to explain design concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to present design rationale and align with stakeholder expectations.

If you feel you don't meet all the requirements, we are still happy to get to know you, learn more about your ambitions and ideas and look forward to receiving your application!
