Civil Engineering Manager Job Description

A civil engineering manager oversees the technical and design aspects of civil engineering projects, such as buildings and infrastructure. They are responsible for managing a team of engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

1. Develop and design the best project approach, elements, and details.
2. Oversee the operational delivery of segmented projects for clients, including coordination with sub-consultant teams.
3. Manage ongoing project construction administration.
4. Maintain and develop client relationships.
5. Supervise team members and personnel, including consultants and contractors.
6. Coordinate communication among different types of engineers working on a project.
7. Plan budgets and schedules to ensure project delivery is on time and within budget.
8. Monitor project performance, update schedules, and prepare monthly reports.

Additional Responsibilities

• Project Management (23%): Manage project contracts, design, marketing, construction, and supervise engineers, technicians, and project managers.
• Business Development (11%): Prepare financial and technical documentation, identify vendors, and deliver sales presentations to prospective clients and organizations.
• Civil 3D (10%): Design water main alignments, develop sidewalk improvement studies, and prepare cost estimates using Civil 3D.
• Geotechnical (6%): Conduct geotechnical instrumentation monitoring and data collection.
• CAD (5%): Supervise the engineering department, including project/design engineers, CAD operators, and support staff.
• Stormwater (5%): Prepare budgets for stormwater services and produce technical and financial reports for management.
