Civil Engineering Manager Job Description
A civil engineering manager oversees the technical and design aspects of civil engineering projects, such as buildings and infrastructure. They are responsible for managing a team of engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Develop and design the best project approach, elements, and details.
- Oversee the operational delivery of segmented projects for clients, including coordination with sub-consultant teams.
- Manage ongoing project construction administration.
- Maintain and develop client relationships.
- Supervise team members and personnel, including consultants and contractors.
- Coordinate communication among different types of engineers working on a project.
- Plan budgets and schedules to ensure project delivery is on time and within budget.
- Monitor project performance, update schedules, and prepare monthly reports.
Additional Responsibilities
- Project Management (23%): Manage project contracts, design, marketing, construction, and supervise engineers, technicians, and project managers.
- Business Development (11%): Prepare financial and technical documentation, identify vendors, and deliver sales presentations to prospective clients and organizations.
- Civil 3D (10%): Design water main alignments, develop sidewalk improvement studies, and prepare cost estimates using Civil 3D.
- Geotechnical (6%): Conduct geotechnical instrumentation monitoring and data collection.
- CAD (5%): Supervise the engineering department, including project/design engineers, CAD operators, and support staff.
- Stormwater (5%): Prepare budgets for stormwater services and produce technical and financial reports for management.
