Job description

Purpose and Scope

Reporting to the Deputy Head of Energy-from-Waste Plant, this role will act as Maintenance Head and be responsible for all plant maintenance activities, providing leadership and guidance in maintenance of the plant.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

1. Leadership and Supervision

  • Lead and manage the maintenance team which comprises of mechanical, instrument and electrical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operation of all plant equipment.
  • Develop maintenance schedules and ensure adherence to timelines, minimizing plant downtime.
  • Provide direction and oversight for predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance activities.

2. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

  • Safety Protocols: Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with company safety protocols and relevant health and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA standards, local safety regulations).
  • Incident Reporting and Investigation: Supervise the reporting and investigation of any maintenance related accidents, near-misses, or safety incidents, ensuring corrective measures are implemented.
  • Environmental Protection: Ensure that maintenance activities do not negatively impact the environment, adhering to environmental protection standards (e.g., air emissions, water discharge, noise pollution).
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular safety and environmental risk assessments, identify hazards, and implement mitigation strategies to prevent accidents or environmental harm.
  • Emergency Response Planning: Develop and train the maintenance team together with the safety team on emergency response procedures related to both safety incidents and environmental hazards.

3. Operational Maintenance Management

  • Oversee the maintenance of waste handling systems, combustion units, flue gas cleaning systems, ash handling, and all other related equipment in the plant.
  • Ensure that equipment operates at peak performance by conducting routine inspections, troubleshooting, and timely repairs.
  • Implement a robust predictive / preventive maintenance program to minimize equipment failures and enhance reliability.

4. Regulatory and Legal Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory provisions, including health, safety, and environment requirements. Embed a safety and sustainability culture within the Plant.
  • Stay updated on changes to environmental laws and industry best practices, ensuring the plant adheres to the latest compliance standards.
  • Work with regulatory agencies to ensure proper documentation and compliance inspections are carried out on time.

5. Budget and Cost Management

  • Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining safety and environmental compliance.
  • Monitor maintenance costs and identify opportunities for cost-saving without compromising quality or safety.

6. Training and Development

  • Ensure that all maintenance personnel are adequately trained in the safe work activities, and the proper handling of energy-from-waste plant equipment.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning, ensuring the team is updated on new technologies, safe practices, and regulatory changes.

7. Reporting and Documentation

  • Generate reports on maintenance activities for senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely documentation of all maintenance activities.
  • Maintain records of preventive maintenance schedules, breakdowns, repairs, and equipment performance.

8. Collaboration with Other Departments

  • Work closely with operations, technical services, HSSE and support functions to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Collaborate with external contractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure the availability of parts, services, and support.
  • Ensure that the plant is adequately stocked with materials and tools for the maintenance function to continue without interruption to the plant operation.
  • Ensure that all procurement activities are conducted in accordance with the Company’s regulations.
  • Manage the development and implementation of the approved budget for the Department.

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Engineering or any other relevant fields
  • At least more than 10 years of relevant experience in the Energy, Utilities industry, with at least 5 years in a maintenance leadership role for a Maintenance Department
  • Possesses good management and leadership quality
  • Self-motivated and independent
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
