An established industry player is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage payroll processes for a large group of researchers and faculty. About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented individual to join our team on a temporary basis. This role involves managing end-to-end payroll, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and assisting in research grant claim submissions.
This temporary assignment is for approximately 6 months.
Key Responsibilities
Main Duty - Payroll Processing
Managing the end-to-end payroll process for a group of researchers and faculty (RSFC) with a headcount of 550 or more, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Verifying all payroll instructions/supporting documents to ensure accurate employee data (e.g., new hires, terminations, and changes)
Filing income tax clearance IR21 timely
Preparing payroll reconciliation, reporting, and analytics
Preparing monthly manual journal postings and ad hoc adjustments due to late instructions or unforeseen situations
Submitting NS make-up pay claims, government paid leave claims, etc
Supporting payroll audit by internal and external auditors on payroll audit
Collaborating with HR to ensure accurate employee data (e.g., new hires, terminations, and changes).
Other Duties
Administering benefits claims for the group of researchers and faculty (RSFC), including child’s education fees, research incentives, teaching allowances, tax protection claims, and other ad-hoc benefits
Assisting in grants activities related to the expenditure of manpower (EOM), including:
Providing advice for EOM simulations, grant switches, etc., based on projected EOM and known budget utilization
Clarifying enquiries with stakeholders
Key Requirements
Experience and Skills
Experience in payroll processing, preferably in the higher education industry or government-related companies
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience is preferred
Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance requirements
Excellent numerical and analytical skills
Proficiency in payroll systems (especially SAP) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel)
Understanding of accounting principles and experience in GL accounts manual journal preparations is a plus
