This position has accountability to Vale Base Metals to perform safe and timely shipments of products from various company’s refineries into Asia, nickel matte from Indonesia to Japan, and to support the “last mile” delivery from 3PL warehouses to our customers in Asia. The primary responsibility is to manage the day-to-day operational and planning activities to deliver optimal value for the various business units.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop and implement efficient outbound logistics plans (weekly, monthly and yearly) to ensure timely delivery of commercial products (Nickel Class I and Class II and Cobalt) to customers.
- Provide timely notification to all relevant parties on bookings and coordinate with stakeholders on subsequent changes
- Track shipping schedules, perform all required system related updates and resolve issues that may affect shipping, vessel slippage risk and deliveries to the customers
- Responsible for coordinating with plant, regional marketing units (RMUs), local and worldwide logistics providers the readiness of cargo and shipping schedule in order to accomplish with delivery terms conditions assuring quality, packing, labelling and weighting.
- Engage closely with key stakeholders including sales, S&OP, commercial services, and the operational sites.
- Act as the primary escalation point of contact for all operational issues raised by both internal and external stakeholders
- Set up deliveries and shipments in SAP and ensure all shipments are reconciled and post goods issues in a timely manner.
- Organise drayage trucking for containers and monitor detention, demurrage and storage days.
- Process freight, transport and storage invoices for payments and resolve any payment dispute with vendors timely.
- Obtain prompt release of shipping documents (bills of lading).
- Ensure completeness of accrual of freight cost at end month.
- Develop and manage relationship with vendors such as shipping lines, 3PLs and internal stakeholders.
- Liaising with freight forwarders and custom agents for clearance of cargo at destinations.
- Liaising with Agents for container inspections or packing surveys to meet freight cargo standards.
- Monitor and analyze transportation performance metrics, including delivery times, costs, and carrier performance.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to enhance logistics efficiency and reduce costs.
- Evaluate carrier performance and address any service issues promptly.
- Prepare regular reports on outbound logistics performance and present findings to management.
- Ensure all outbound shipments comply with relevant regulations and company policies.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in logistics and transportation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of related experience in supply chain/logistics
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Commerce or related field.
- A team player, autonomous and self-driven.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Determined problem solver with high level attention to details, strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Solid time management skill and ability to prioritise workload in a changing environment and within tight deadlines
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Exposure to SAP systems will also be beneficial.
- Knowledge of Japanese or Mandarin is advantageous to liaise with overseas counterparts.
