A Day in the Life
This role supports the Sr Director – International Tax and covers the Asia Pacific region, including Emerging Markets Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing all corporate tax matters for entities in the Asia Pacific region.
- Supporting the Corporate Tax team with quarterly tax reporting, analyses on FIN 48, income tax rates, withholding tax, tax holiday checklists, audit logs, thin capitalization reviews, valuation allowances, etc.
- Assisting local Controllers in financial reporting of income taxes, ensuring proper recognition and coordination of book and tax effects, tax provisions, and deferred taxes.
- Monitoring changes in local tax laws, rulings, and regulations; recommending responsive actions.
- Reviewing corporate income tax returns and payments prepared by local teams or external providers.
- Maintaining tax calendars and compliance inventories for APAC, potentially extending to other taxes as needed.
- Supporting the Sr Director on income tax queries, audits, and relations with tax authorities, collaborating with local teams and advisors.
- Managing tax incentives, ensuring compliance, and supporting negotiations with government agencies.
- Developing and implementing tax policies and strategies with the global team.
- Addressing transfer pricing issues and supporting documentation and agreements.
- Exploring strategies to improve local effective tax rates.
- Managing risks related to permanent establishments.
- Leading or supporting regional/global projects, including compliance procedures and documentation.
- Influencing legislative changes where possible.
- Coordinating tax audit and controversy issues across the region.
- Identifying opportunities to rationalize tax processes and reduce costs.
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 15 years of tax experience, including MNC and global tax issues.
- Graduate degree or higher and professional qualification.
- Experience managing teams and projects, setting tax strategy, and dealing with tax authorities.
- Experience presenting to senior executives and managing advisors.
- Preferably experience in Medtech industry.
- Deep understanding of regional tax compliance, planning, restructurings, M&A.
- Knowledge of local GAAP and US GAAP.
- Transfer Pricing and Pillar Two expertise.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently.
- Strong work ethic, analytical skills, and communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and fluency in English.
- Industry experience is advantageous.
