We are supporting our client, a respected name in the maritime industry, in the search for a Drydocking Manager to oversee the drydock planning and execution of their fleet. This position is ideal for candidates with deep experience managing vessel dockings and strong working knowledge of shipyards in China.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the technical team to ensure drydocking projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to a high technical standard.
- Evaluate vessel schedules and operational needs to identify suitable shipyards, with a focus on cost efficiency and timely availability.
- Develop and manage drydock budgets, ensuring expenditures remain within approved limits.
- Establish standardized procedures for drydocking activities, including technical specifications, planning tools, and checklists.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs, minimize downtime, and enhance overall drydock performance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for shipyards, suppliers, and service providers during all docking phases.
- Assess and select contractors and vendors based on technical capability, past performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide regular reports on drydock progress, including daily updates, delays, cost variations, and project issues.
- Report to management on shipyard performance metrics, rebate negotiations, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Manage vessel modification and upgrade projects, including energy efficiency improvements and the trial of new technologies.
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables in collaboration with internal teams.
- Ensure timely, budget-compliant execution of all drydock and project-related work.
- Support vessel managers during dockings to ensure alignment with fleet-wide technical practices.
- Promote a collaborative approach and encourage knowledge-sharing within the wider technical and fleet management teams.
Requirements:
- Chief Engineer or Master Mariner background is highly preferred, especially with prior experience in shipyard or technical management roles.
- Proven track record managing drydocking operations for a variety of vessel types.
- Strong knowledge of shipyard operations, particularly in China.
- Experience working within a ship management company or with ship repair yards is a strong advantage.
- Excellent organizational, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Able to travel regionally for drydock supervision as needed.
