About the Role
The Director of Group Healthcare Provider Operations plays a pivotal role in executing AIA’s healthcare strategy at the Group level, representing clinical operations across the organization. This role is responsible for building business, clinical and operational best practices within AIA owned provision business (“ProvCo”). You will also support the development of AIA’s ProvCo and drive vertical integration and synergies under the Integrated Healthcare Strategy (“IHS"), working closely with senior management to align AIA’s clinical operations according to AIA’s standards and enhance customer experience. A key part of the role includes ensuring AIA’s Clinical Risk Management and Clinical Governance standard comply with regulatory requirements and lead the effective adoption in AIA’s clinical settings and patient care. Additionally, you will lead workstream evaluation of potential partnerships, vertical integration or greenfield investments in provision assets, ensuring our provider strategy aligns to the delivery of quality value-based healthcare to our customers and support the healthcare leadership teams in the business units.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Healthcare Portfolio Development
- Support the assessment of opportunities (e.g. clinical and operational due diligence) for mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships to expand service offerings
- Support and collaborate with the Local Business Units (“LBUs”), where required, in potential partnerships, vertical integration or greenfield investments in provision assets, developing and executing due diligence, subsequent integration and clinic operational excellence
- Analyse industry trends and regulatory changes, to guide strategic decision-making
- Support the execution of multi-clinic growth strategies by leading the post-completion integration into the provision business target operating model
Target Operating Model (TOM) for ProvCo
- Develop the provision business target operating model and lead the post-completion integration of the provision business
- Lead the review of TOM regularly based on implementation experience
Business Synergy and Vertical Integration with AIA Insurance Business
- Develop vertical integration strategies in collaboration with the respective LBUs
- Support the development of strategies across agency steerage, proposition, panel management, digital integration, administrative processes, HTDA etc
- Develop and track joint targets between ProvCo and LBUs
Operational Leadership
- Support the operations of ProvCo to ensure seamless and efficient functioning
- Drive the achievement of operational KPIs (Utilisation rate, turnaround time, customer satisfaction score, supply chain efficiency, technology utilisation and ROI etc)
Financial Stewardship & Governance
- Monitor and track the P&L of the ProvCo with key focus on driving revenue growth, enhancing efficiency, and minimising costs and wastage
- Execute revenue optimisation strategies and manage expenditures to meet financial goals
- Analyse financial performance reports to identify areas for improvement and ensure financial stability
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the organisation’s financial resources and ensure the integrity of financial reporting
- Work with internal and external audits to ensure financial practices are sound and compliant with regulations
Growth Plans of ProvCo Business
- Lead the execution of strategic and operational initiatives across the ProvCo business
- Support the development of multi-clinic growth plans (through organic and inorganic approaches)
- Assist to develop doctor remuneration (pay, fees, quasi-equity, equity, etc), recruitment and retention framework to guide provision unit CEOs in building up clinical strength and specialty coverage
Quality, Risk and Governance
- Define and develop standards in planning, directing, and evaluating all clinical activities within AIA’s clinical facilities. Drive economic and efficient performance within clinics while delivering high-quality patient services
- Provides the programme delivery, skill and expertise to develop the strategic prioritisation, the design and subsequent execution of best practice in clinical operations that drive the transformation of our customer health journeys in AIA owned facilities resulting in a material impact on financial results across AIA’s owned healthcare provision
- Define and drive the delivery of clinical service transformation in our AIA owned providers through effective provider management development, process enhancement and system investment
- Work with Group Healthcare Governance to develop clinic policies, standards, KPIs for measuring clinical outcome and ensure adherence to the policies and standards for both insurance operations and clinical operations
- Implement risk management practices and procedures are implemented according to the risk management framework
- Effectively manage risks concerning unethical behaviors and improper product, market, and sales practices
- Guide ProvCo local business units to implement measures and take remedial and corrective actions when required to ensure compliance with regulations and ensuring learning from mistakes is embedded
- Develop and implement standards and guidance in tracking staff resource utilisation, creating clinic operating budget plans, drafting contingency plans, conducting quality assurance testing, clinic system development, and ensuring training standards are in place for clinic-based staff
- The role will require extensive travel and time in local markets throughout Asia-Pacific to deliver/drive local capability uplift, strategic ideation and operational execution
Technology and Innovation
- Implement and optimise healthcare technology solutions to improve healthcare services and operational efficiency
- Promote the adoption of innovative practices and solutions
- Stay updated on technological advancements in healthcare to keep the organisation at the forefront of the industry
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Minimum 10-15 proven experience in managing multi-site healthcare operations, including specialist and GP clinics
- Bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Business Administration or MBBS is a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices
- Deep knowledge of private healthcare, ideally across more than one market, understanding of the macro trends and healthcare landscape throughout Asia
- Experience across clinical service settings including specialist outpatient centres, imaging diagnostics, laboratory and day surgery centre
- Experience in clinical operations programme management and deliver of business and cost outcomes, bringing an organisation’s vision into fruition
- Wider experience of clinical and operational performance management using relevant analytics e.g., Diagnosis-related grouping and Value-based care measurements will be an added advantage
- Strong programme management and organisational skills are essential along with proven track record of cross-border clinic experience is ideal
- Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and revenue management
- Strong analytical skills in extracting, organising and analysing business and operational data to draw insights and aid decision making
- Flexible, able to work and lead a team in a dynamic environment and across cultures and able to travel
