Job description

Job Purpose

Exchange Operations role within the ICE Futures Europe (IFEU) Market Supervision team responsible for the daily management of financial derivatives spanning multiple global asset classes including: Oil, Utilities, Soft Commodities, Fixed Income, Metals, Equities, Indices and FX. The Director will oversee the effective running of the department, taking responsibility for decisions made by the team on trade and settlement disputes and managing direct reports. The Director will also represent the department in established governance forums such as Enterprise Risk, Audit, Regulatory and Executive Board, as well as with external regulatory bodies such as the FCA.

Key resposibilities

  • Ensure smooth running of IFEU trading operations - oversee departmental processes including trade investigations and daily settlements, handle exceptional circumstances and make key decisions when required.
  • Project management - conduct bespoke project / development work often tailored for Market Supervision but involving interaction and exposure across the ICE business and senior management.
  • Technology enhancement - ensure priority system development work is captured in major business objectives and is subsequently completed by relevant teams.
  • New products - work with Sales and other related departments to stay abreast of upcoming product launches, understand and communicate the related impact on Market Supervision and ensure new processes are ready.
  • Operational improvements - continually look to streamline workflows and identify potential process improvements. Work with other departments across the business to develop and review policies and procedures.
  • Personnel management - conduct periodic reviews and annual appraisals for direct reports, manage staff shift patterns/annual leave and allocate supervision and settlement responsibilities accordingly, lead recruitment activities including reviewing CVs and undertaking interviews.
  • Enterprise Risk Management - preparation and presentation of monthly departmental reports to senior management across various ICE Exchanges.
  • Business Continuity - comprehensive knowledge of Business Continuity procedures and requirements to ensure minimal impact to operations when enacted.
  • Governance - take lead in assisting with various levels of governance including Audit, Regulatory Compliance and Enterprise Risk Management

Product and Technical Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all IFEU toolsets and systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of all IFEU derivative markets.
  • Proficiency with industry toolsets
  • Broad understanding of regulatory developments as well as IFEU’s Market Regulation processes

Qualifications and experience

  • At least 8 years relevant experience, of which at least 2 years at Senior Manager Level.
  • Degree essential - Economics/Finance/Business/Mathematics/Engineering/Science or similar preferred.
    • Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, visual basic programming an advantage.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to get best results from a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, interacting effectively at all levels both internally and with external companies and organisations.
  • Methodical, quick thinker with excellent organisational skills.
  • Problem solving - proficient at identifying problems and working efficiently to resolve.
  • Strong drive to continually improve and develop working practices and industry knowledge.
  • Proven ability to operate and make decisions in high pressure trade and settlement dispute scenarios, and handle customers accordingly.
