Job summary

Our client in Singapore is seeking a Director, AI to lead the data and AI capability build-out, operating at both technical detail and boardroom levels. The role will shape the AI agenda, oversee model development and team growth, and drive engagement with business stakeholders and regulators where needed.

You will define the AI roadmap, mentor cross-functional teams, and ensure responsible AI practices across governance, data quality, and deployment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS or related quantitative field.
• Extensive AI/ML experience including leadership.
• Hands-on with ML, DL, NLP and generative AI.
• Strong Python/SQL skills and cloud experience.

Our client, a prominent financial services organisation in Singapore, is building out its data and AI capability and is looking for a Director, AI to lead that charge. This is a senior, high-visibility role for someone who can operate equally well in the technical detail and in the boardroom: setting the AI agenda, building out the models and teams that deliver it, and bringing business stakeholders along at every step.

What you’ll do

• Define and own the AI and data science strategy, translating business priorities into a clear, delivery-ready roadmap
• Lead the design, build and deployment of machine learning and generative AI solutions, from proof of concept through to production
• Build, mentor and scale a high-performing data science team
• Act as the primary link between technical teams and senior business stakeholders, communicating complex AI concepts in terms non-technical leaders can act on
• Drive AI governance and best practice across the organisation, including model monitoring, data quality and responsible AI use
• Identify new AI use cases in partnership with the business, and prioritise them against commercial impact
• Represent AI strategy and progress to senior leadership and, where relevant, to external partners and regulators

What you’ll bring

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics or a related quantitative field
• Significant experience in AI and machine learning, including several years in a senior or leadership capacity
• Strong technical grounding across machine learning, deep learning and natural language processing, with hands-on exposure to generative AI (LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering)
• Proficiency in Python, SQL and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• A track record of leading cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders, including those without a technical background
• Financial services experience is required
• Excellent communication and organisational awareness, with the ability to navigate a large, matrixed business
