The Building Design & Engineering team is accountable for the most efficient designs. We are looking for exceptional individuals to join our team to lead the region and strengthen the standards for the Amazon Fulfilment network. The ideal candidate will possess an architecture background that enables him/her to undertake the challenges of designing and innovating to provide the most effective solutions and a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically in aligning building design with the larger objectives of the business.
You'll be a part of a diverse team of architects, electrical engineers, Project Managers, MEP Engineers, and real estate transaction managers. You will interact with reliability and maintenance engineers (RME), security experts, operations managers, safety, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across the Amazon Fulfilment Network to help us deliver the highest standards while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. As the Subject Matter Expert, you will design and uphold the Building Design standards following a process-oriented approach.
The role will entail working on warehouse and logistics designs, right from site master planning to developing services and details of interiors. The position involves working with multiple internal and external stakeholders, developing consultants, vendors, and contractors to scale up to defined standards.
Along with technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to provide solutions navigating through a matrix organization are essential skills.
Major tasks and responsibilities will involve (but are not limited to) the following:
A day in the life
This role will involve engagement with design engineers, Project Managers, Operations, Safety, and Maintenance teams internally, to deliver on strategic as well as tactical levels.
About the team
This role will be a part of the Global Sustainable Design team which develops and upholds the strategy and standards for the Amazon Fulfilment network, with sustainability at the core of our operations. Our team is accountable for ensuring meeting the key business requirements, upholding safety in design and compliance. We continuously innovate to better ourselves, working with internal and external stakeholders.
Key job responsibilities
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture with 10+ years' industry experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability to establish new systems and processes and work in a start-up environment
- Navigating in a matrix environment, engaging with stakeholders to drive business-critical decisions and actions
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and apply judgment with "one-way" / "two-way" door decisions
- Critical decision making
- Ability to influence stakeholders, without having authority, through critical thinking and data
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Hands-on experience in managing complex projects
- Experience in managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes
- Understanding of logistics and warehousing design and construction
- Understanding of warehouse operational processes
