This is a hands-on role spanning power systems, control, and automation, with duties from system integration to testing and commissioning. You will collaborate with sales, review tender documents, define equipment scope, and support procurement and site delivery.

Qualifications

  • University/college studies in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronics engineering.
  • 5+ years in the diesel engine/generator industry with track record of delivered projects.
  • Deep expertise in electrical or mechanical genset systems; cross-disciplinary knowledge is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Responsibilities

  • Define and develop electrical and mechanical system requirements for Walk-in genset enclosures.
  • Deliver end-to-end design solutions with electrical/automation and mechanical designs.
  • Review/provide technical documentation and ensure compliance with specs.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manage scope of supply for equipment.
  • Provide technical support during project execution and commissioning.
  • Support procurement and drive continuous improvement.

Position Summary

The Design Engineer (internal title: Application Engineer) is responsible for all mechanical & electrical related technical solution engineering for major Data Center Projects in APAC. This is a hands-on engineering role working across electrical power systems, control systems and automation interfaces. The role involves supporting system integration, troubleshooting, testing and commissioning activities while working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams and customers.

What you will be doing:
  • Responsible for all mechanical/ electrical related technical solution engineering for major Data Center Projects in APAC.
  • Develop and manage complete scope from initiation to onsite delivery of mechanical systems related to the diesel genset enclosure.
Tendering Matters
  • Work closely with sales to define the technical scope.
  • Review/clarify customer’s specifications & tender documents.
  • Review and finalize the C/D/E document.
  • Provide the technical specifications and define the scope of supply for the equipment.
  • Coordinate with factory and local suppliers to harmonize the scope of supply.
  • Work with suppliers/contractors to quote for the equipment and obtain proposals timely.
Solution Engineering Matters
  • Define and develop electrical and mechanical system requirements for walk-in genset enclosures aligned with project specifications.
  • Deliver end-to-end design solutions, including electrical/automation and mechanical designs, supported by detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Perform engineering calculations and technical evaluations to verify designs and ensure optimal equipment and supplier selection.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.
  • Leverage engineering tools, technical databases, and factory standards to deliver high-quality, standardized solutions.
  • Support project lifecycle through technical issue resolution, knowledge management, and delivery of presentations and training to stakeholders.
Order Execution
  • Review and approve all technical documentation (drawings, schematics, P&IDs, datasheets) to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Define and finalize equipment scope, manage procurement alignment, and raise purchase requisitions.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues across electrical, automation, and mechanical systems during project execution.
  • Drive continuous improvement through design reviews and lessons learned to enhance system performance and efficiency.
Other Matters
  • Support procurement in supplier development.
  • Update oneself with the technical developments of the market and internal products.
  • Travel overseas on business, when required.
  • Special assignment from time to time.
Position requirements:
  • University / college studies in Mechanical or Electrical or Mechatronics engineering.
  • Proven experience in the diesel engine/generator industry, min. 5 years with track record of successfully delivered projects and solutions.
  • Deep expertise in either electrical or mechanical genset systems (automation, protection, cooling, fuel, ventilation), with the ability to integrate cross-disciplinary knowledge into optimized genset enclosure designs; complementary competency in the other domain is an advantage.
  • Strong capability in engineering calculations across electrical (e.g., load flow, short circuit) and/or mechanical systems (e.g., sizing, thermal/airflow performance).
  • Proven track record in conceptualizing and delivering complex electro-mechanical solutions, with a focus on performance optimization and cost efficiency.
  • Proficient in developing and reviewing technical documentation (e.g., schematics, wiring diagrams, system layouts), with deep specialization in either electrical or mechanical engineering, and functional competency in the other discipline; experience in data centers, switchgear, and power protection systems is an added advantage.
  • Understanding of Asian cultures and business practices.
  • Excellent team player with an open mindset, collaborative spirit, and exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with diverse teams and stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Willingness to travel for onsite jobs when needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to meet project requirements and deadlines effectively.
  • Proactive and positive attitude.
  • Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software.
  • Proficient in English language.
