Job summary

Multimedia Engineering Pte Ltd is seeking a Design Engineer to design, analyze and deliver steel, cable, and tensile membrane structures. You will perform structural calculations, 3D modelling, and technical coordination with project and fabrication teams to ensure constructability and compliance with specifications.

The role emphasizes proficiency in Rhino/Grasshopper, FEA, and fabrication detailing, with opportunities to use Python for design workflows.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Civil/Structural Engineering experience, preferably in steel or specialist structures.
• Strong knowledge of structural analysis, engineering calculations, FEA and design.
• Proficient in 3D modelling, analysis and design software (Rhino/Grasshopper). IDEA StatiCa experience is a plus.
• Experience in steel/cable structures and connections, fabrication detailing.
• Familiarity with tensile membrane systems and ETFE skylights is advantageous.
• Programming exposure (Python/C/C++, Fortran) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze steel, cable, and tensile membrane structures per project specs and standards.
• Perform structural calculations and FEA; prepare design reports and technical submissions.
• Develop and review 3D models, shop drawings and fabrication drawings for accuracy.
• Design and review connections, welds, and structural members; apply IDEA StatiCa where applicable.
• Coordinate with architects, consultants, clients and fabricators to resolve design requirements.
• Collaborate with fabrication teams; provide technical solutions for fabrication and site issues.
• Conduct site inspections and assessments to ensure conformity with drawings and specs.
• Provide ongoing technical support during construction; monitor progress and address issues promptly.
• Participate in value engineering, design optimization and tender proposals; develop innovative structural solutions.
• Support computational mechanics, engineering tools and design workflows using Python and related methods.

About the role

We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of steel, cable, and tensile membrane structures, including structural analysis, 3D modelling, engineering calculations, and technical coordination with project and fabrication teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyze steel, cable, and tensile membrane structures in accordance with project specifications, relevant codes, and engineering standards.
• Perform structural calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) and prepare design reports, engineering submissions, and technical documentation.
• Develop and review 3D models, structural shop drawings, and fabrication drawings to ensure design accuracy and constructability.
• Design and review steel connections, welding details, structural members, and connection systems, including the use of IDEA StatiCa where applicable.
• Coordinate with architects, consultants, clients, fabricators, and project teams to resolve structural design and technical requirements.
• Coordinate closely with fabrication and installation teams and provide technical solutions for fabrication, erection, and site-related issues.
• Conduct site inspections and technical assessments to ensure construction and installation works comply with approved drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements.
• Provide technical support throughout construction and erection works, monitor structural progress, and address design or site issues in a timely manner.
• Participate in value engineering, design optimization, tender proposals, and development of innovative structural solutions to improve project performance and constructability.
• Support the development of computational mechanics, engineering tools, and design workflows, including the use of Python and computational design methods where applicable.

About you

• Minimum Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil & Structural Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in Civil & Structural Engineering, preferably in steel structures, specialist structures, or construction.
• Strong knowledge and experience in structural analysis, engineering calculations, FEA, and structural design.
• Proficient in 3D modelling, analysis, and design software, particularly Rhino and Grasshopper; experience with IDEA StatiCa will be an advantage.
• Experience in the design and analysis of steel structures, cable structures, and structural connections, including fabrication and detailing.
• Experience in tensile membrane systems and ETFE skylights will be highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of programming and computational design using Python, C++, Fortran, or other relevant programming languages will be an added advantage.
