We are looking for an experienced and proactive General Manager / Deputy GM, Marine Operations to lead the day-to-day operational management of the container vessel fleet for one of our global shipping clients. The role will oversee marine operations, stowage planning, bunker management, and port & terminal coordination to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective performance. This is a senior leadership position that will play a key role in maintaining high operational standards and driving continuous improvement across the fleet.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Operations Management
- Oversee daily marine operations for the container vessel fleet, ensuring safety, schedule reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Plan and supervise voyage execution, including routing, weather avoidance, and fuel optimisation.
- Manage bunker planning, procurement, and consumption monitoring in line with environmental regulations (e.g., MARPOL Annex VI, IMO 2020).
- Oversee stowage planning to maximise space utilisation while ensuring cargo safety and compliance with port, terminal, and class requirements.
- Coordinate closely with ports and terminals globally to secure berths, minimise turnaround times, and resolve operational challenges.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations, port state control, flag state requirements, and company safety policies.
- Oversee vessel inspections, audits, certifications, and incident investigations.
- Maintain operational manuals and emergency response procedures.
Fleet Performance & Maintenance
- Monitor vessel performance through operational data analysis, recommending and implementing performance-enhancement measures.
- Oversee dry-docking, vessel upgrades, retrofits, and newbuild deliveries.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with port authorities, classification societies, P&I clubs, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
- Represent the company in industry forums, stakeholder meetings, and inspection.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
- COC Class 1 Deck Officer or Chief Engineer certificate preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive marine operations experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in container shipping operations, including stowage planning, bunker management, and port/terminal coordination.
- Strong knowledge of container vessel operations, including cargo handling procedures, load/discharge sequencing, and reefer cargo management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Willingness to travel as required.
