Deputy Director / Senior Assistant Director, Tech-Biz Development, Venture

The Venture Creation & Growth ("VCG") group within the Enterprise Division of A*STAR is responsible for spin-off activities within A*STAR, including the education and evangelization to the A*STAR community on startups, incubation, spin-off formation and portfolio management. To increase the odds of our spin-offs succeeding, we work closely with our A*STAR scientific community to prepare our scientist-entrepreneurs with the necessary mindset and skillsets to launch their start-ups successfully. Our support comes in various forms, ranging from having an incubation facility with the appropriate incubation support, to bootcamps, courses, exhibitions and events. After the start-ups are launched, we continue to support them on their journey by connecting them to the corporate and investor communities, as well as helping them to internationalize through introducing them to global partners as well as to our A*STAR Suzhou Partner Centre.

VCG is seeking a highly motivated individual to manage the pipeline of A*STAR spinoffs. This role will require the candidate to multi-task across various activities within the pipeline management work scope. Within the team that is responsible for curating and managing intellectual property, and research capability, team members will be expected to provide assistance to A*STAR researcher for spinoff creation.

Position Scope & Responsibilities:

• Engage A*STAR researchers, venture builders, accelerators/incubators and internal stakeholders on spinoff creation related activities
• Engage venture builders on innovation and ideation sessions with A*STAR researchers
• Conduct competitive and market analysis of the target technologies
• Prepare various portfolio updates and narratives- for external partners and internal reports
• Organizing investor engagement sessions
• Portfolio management of existing A*STAR spinoffs

Qualifications:

• Higher Degree in Electronic/electrical, Advanced Computing, Microelectronics, Science/Engineering or relevant fields
• More than 10 years business development or technology marketing in semiconductor/electronics, IoT/sensors, advanced computing related industrial experiences.
• Prior experience with start-ups / early-stage companies and founders advantageous
• Good soft skills and interpersonal skills to cultivate relationships with founders, investors, and internal/external stakeholders
• A team player
• Ability to transverse and be conversant in various industry verticals
• Excellent time management and ability to multi-task and prioritise work while being meticulous and organised
• A self-starter, independent and resourceful
