Job summary

NHG Health in Singapore seeks a dental assistant to support patient care from preparation to post‑treatment. You will assist dentists, take and develop X-rays, sterilize instruments and help manage clinic operations.

Ideal candidates hold GCE 'N' Level or NITEC in dental assisting and can work independently; hospital or clinic experience is an advantage.

Qualifications

• GCE 'N' Level or NITEC in dental assisting preferred.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Dental assisting experience in hospital or clinic setting is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for treatment and help them feel comfortable before, during and after dental procedures.
• Assist in taking and developing dental X-rays.
• Sterilize instruments and prepare materials for procedures.
• Maintain dental chair and equipment in good working order.
• Assist dentist during procedures with proper instruments.
• Maintain patient medical and treatment records and appointment listings.
• Coordinate appointment reminders, rescheduling and patient care issues.
• Support clinic operations including booking, calls, billing and supplies.
• Maintain infection control and grooming standards in the department.
• Coordinate clinic operations between dental clinics and hospitals.

To assist dentists in the provision of dental care and dental treatment for patients.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(A) SPECIFIC

• Prepare patient for treatment and helping patients feel comfortable before, during and after dental treatment. Advise patient on dental hygiene issues when necessary.
• Assist in taking and developing dental x-rays.
• Perform sterilization of instruments, preparing instruments and materials before each dental procedure.
• Perform instrument manual washing and operate ultrasonic cleaner.
• Maintain dental chair in good working condition according to manufacture recommendations.
• Work alongside dentist during dental procedures, providing proper instruments and assistance to facilitate patient care.
• Maintain patient medical and treatment records and dentists’ appointment listing to ensure smooth flow of patients.
• Assist in communication with patients for appointment reminders, appointment re-scheduling and related patient care issues.
• Assist in clinic operations, such as appointment booking, answering telephone calls, billing and ordering of supplies.
• Maintain good clinical, service quality, infection control and grooming standards as required by the hospital.
• To see to tidiness and cleanliness of the department, ensuring good filing system and see to clinic administrative work.
• Assist to coordinate clinic operations between dental clinics (in KTPH and other hospitals, such as deployment of staff, top-up of supplies, equipment maintenance, licenses, etc.)
• To participate actively in hospital QC projects and other corporate activities.
• To perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor or HOD.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

(A) Education Training and Experience

• Minimum, GCE 'N' Level, NITEC in dental assisting is an advantage but not essential
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as staff may be deployed between different clinics, subject to service needs
• Dental assisting experience in hospital or clinic setting is an advantage but not essential
