Job summary

ByteDance PTE. LTD. is hiring for a role in Singapore to architect and oversee data center commissioning and MEP design alignment.

The candidate will review data hall layouts, validate capacity plans, and contribute to site selections and contracting with providers. The role requires strong infrastructure background, experience in testing and commissioning, and the ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams across the globe.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of standard power and cooling calculations (e.g., UTI, TIA-942, ASHRAE).
• Understanding of 2N or N+1 redundancy in design.
• Experience with data center concepts and MEP coordination.

Responsibilities

• Participate in data center site selection and contractual evaluations.
• Review Data Center MEP Design and other disciplines for new builds.
• Review data hall layouts and perform test fits to validate capacity and failover.
• Define commissioning requirements and responsibilities in contractor contracts.
• Support QA/QC during construction.
• Lead testing and commissioning reviews to verify design intent.
• Collaborate with FM team to validate commissioning results and hand off systems.
• Help build SME knowledge to overcome design limitations and risks.
• Conduct periodic audits to assess design effectiveness in-use.
• Explain data center infrastructure design to visitors.
• Continuously improve MEP design to meet future needs.
• Maintain positive relations with partner teams and vendors.

Responsibilities

About the Team The Datacenter Infrastructure Engineering team supports the company's fast growth by building and operating hyperscale datacenters. The team manages the end to end lifecycle of server fleet, providing cloud solutions and various infrastructure services ensuring that they are scalable and are reliable.

About the Role The team is looking for candidates with strong technical infrastructure backgrounds and data center commissioning experience, passionate about engineering excellence, and providing effective and sustainable solutions with an eye to the future. Candidates need to understand the challenges associated with deploying and validating infrastructure at scale and have experience in designing systems.

Candidates need further understanding of the global standard for commissioning, performance, availability, project management, contracting, design reviews. The work you do will influence processes globally. Responsibilities

1. To participate and review in data center site selection and contractual evaluations and executions. 2. To participate and Review Data Center MEP Design and other necessary disciplines for new data center builds and data hall fit outs 3. Review data hall layout plans and perform test fits to validate server capacity plans and failover calculations

4. Scope out commissioning requirement and responsibility matrix exhibit in a contract with data center providers or developers during site selection and contracting stage. 5. Participate in construction QA/QC through the construction period of the project. 6. Participate in Testing and Commissioning reviews and discussions to determine required tests to verify design elements.

7. Collaborate with the FM team DC Engineering Operations to validate commissioning results, and prepare systems hand off to the FM DCEO team. 8. Support the DC Engineering FM team to become a Subject Matter Expert and understand how to overcome design limitations and risks. 9. Conduct a periodic Audit or Assessment to access the effectiveness and practicality of the design in-use on our data centers

10. Be our ambassador to explain data center infrastructure design to visitors 11. Based on CX lessons learned, to continually find ways to collaborate and break new ground to enhance MEP design to meet future needs. 12. Continually maintain positive and collaborative working relations with partner teams, vendors, teammates, and internal customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or relevant disciplines, and have at least 2 years of commissioning experience.
• Knowledge of standard power and cooling calculations necessary to determine capacity requirements (i.e., UTI, TIA-942, ASHRAE)
• Understand Power Redundancy and how it is implemented in design (i.e., 2N or N+1 Distributed Redundant)
• Experience with Cooling Redundancy and how Concurrent Maintainability is implemented in design (i.e, N+1 or N+2).
• Experience in the following areas:
• Lead or influence a Design and Architect team to complete Data Center Conceptual>30%>60%>90% Detailed Design Process.
• Practice Data Center Tiering Standards (i.e., TIA-942 Rated 3, or Uptime Tier 3) in a detailed design process.
• Lead or influence a construction team to complete Data Hall fit-out experience, including IT services Coordination, Power and Cooling Planning.
• Lead or influence a testing and commissioning team to perform L1 to L5 commissioning tests to validate the system design intent and resolve technical problems along the way.
• Mechanical and/or electrical engineering experience such as generators, chillers, cooling towers, air handling units, UPS, electrical sub-distribution systems, etc.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with attention to clarity and detail.
