What's the role?
Bloomberg's Legal & Compliance Department plays a key role in supporting our global businesses and operations. Our team tackles complex legal challenges with speed, collaboration, and creativity. We value inclusion and community impact - evident through our award-winning pro bono program.
The Data Security Legal team provides guidance on a wide range of topics including artificial intelligence, biometrics, cybersecurity and incident response, cloud services, data governance, third-party and vendor risk, and operational resilience. Our work supports Bloomberg's broad portfolio - from financial analytics and media to software development and philanthropic initiatives.
Our team in APAC is hiring a Data Security Counsel. You will be responsible for knowing and applying global data security regulations across APAC to the Company's activities, effectively articulating the perspectives and priorities of government authorities to stakeholders across a broad range of job functions and designing practical approaches to challenging legal questions resulting from evolving regulations and business innovation in the APAC region. You will closely coordinate with Government Relations, Communications, Risk and Compliance to support the implementation of controls and resolution of escalated issues.
We'll trust you to:
- Collaborate across business units to provide legal support for strategic initiatives and proactively manage data security risks, while supporting engagement with clients, industry groups, and regulatory authorities
- Continuously develop and maintain expertise in data security laws and regulations throughout the APAC region
- Develop creative legal strategies, advocate for them internally, and lead their implementation
- Address and resolve complex client and vendor inquiries, including escalated negotiations
- Draft reports, applications, and formal responses to regulatory authorities
- Support internal investigations and help drive effective remediation efforts
You'll need to have:- A law degree and legal qualification is required
- A minimum of 5 years of legal experience in a fast-paced, high-performance work environment with a global organization
- Demonstrated experience in drafting legal contracts, and/or policies, procedures and manuals
- A broad curiosity about data security and a desire to continually grow legal expertise across disciplines and jurisdictions
- The ability to juggle multiple projects
- The flexibility and desire to constantly learn, adapt and grow by covering new services and products and mastering new areas of law and regulation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Demonstrated continuous career growth within an organization
We'd love to see:- Familiarity with and interest in financial markets
- Prior experience demonstrating regular increases in responsibilities and expanding areas of legal coverage
- Familiarity with software and technology in the financial services space
