Job description

We are hiring a Data Scientist to join the Data Engineering Practice to support the development of a Synthetic Data Generation (SDG) engine. This role sits at the intersection of machine learning, applied research, and software engineering, with the aim of advancing data privacy and enabling safe data sharing across the public sector.

You will be part of a cross-functional team, working closely with software engineers and product managers to design, experiment, and deliver privacy-enhancing data solutions.

Highlights

• Drive research and experiments in ML/DS model development (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
• Collaborate on product features requiring ML/DS input such as imputation and privacy metrics
• Debug model failures and provide practical fixes in collaboration with the engineering team
• Write clear documentation to explain model choices and technical concepts
• Work in an Agile environment with opportunities to contribute to both design and implementation

Responsibilities

• Design and test SDG models, including evaluation of model behavior and failure cases
• Recommend approaches for features like imputation methods, constraints, and privacy metrics
• Diagnose training and integration issues, and provide actionable solutions
• Collaborate with engineers (Next.js, FastAPI, AWS) to bring research into production
• Share technical knowledge and translate concepts into user-friendly explanations

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related field
• At least 2–3 years’ experience in ML model development and experimentation
• Strong programming proficiency in Python, with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
• Familiarity with backend development (REST APIs, FastAPI/Flask) and cloud environments (AWS)
• Comfortable working with Git, CI/CD, and collaborative coding practices

Nice-to-have:

• Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies, anonymisation, or differential privacy
• Exposure to frontend workflows (Next.js/React)
• Prior experience working in multi-disciplinary teams
