Data Center Engineers implement the entire backbone data center infrastructure that ensures all Sea products and services run without a hitch. As a Data Center Engineer, you will manage the IDC facilities, servers and network equipment that run our server applications across all regions for our massive user base.
Job Description
- Rack, stack and install servers, network and storage equipment according to business requirements, including rail mounting, power connection and structured cabling (copper and fibre) with proper labelling
- Maintain, diagnose and troubleshoot infrastructure health and fix issues as they arise, including server hardware faults (CPU, DIMM, disk, PSU, fan, RAID controller) and component replacement, and coordinate with vendors on RMA where required
- Perform basic network connectivity troubleshooting at the physical layer, such as ping tests, link and port status checks, SFP/transceiver and cable troubleshooting and replacement
- Deploy and configure Linux server operating systems
- Manage data center assets, spares and inventories
- Maintain proper documentation and reports for auditing and tracking purposes
- Work with data center partners to understand and ensure facilities such as cooling, fire suppression and UPS systems are working properly and in accordance with our requirements
Requirements
- Minimum Diploma in Information Technology, Telecommunication/Computer Engineering or related fields
- Hands-on experience in data center operations, with familiarity in server hardware, network equipment and facility management
- Hands-on server hardware troubleshooting skills, and familiarity with major server brands (e.g. Dell, HPE, Lenovo, Supermicro) and their out-of-band management tools (iDRAC, iLO, XClarity or equivalent)
- Experience in rack and stack of servers and network equipment
- Basic knowledge of RAID levels (e.g. RAID 0/1/5/10), including checking array and disk status and replacing failed drives
- Basic networking knowledge: ability to test connectivity (ping, cable tester), troubleshoot SFP/transceivers, and identify and handle fibre and copper cables (e.g. DAC, LC/MPO fibre, Cat6)
- Familiar with Linux server operating systems (basic troubleshooting command line)
- Work independently, with the ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, and communicate outcomes clearly with minimal supervision
- Fast-learning ability, willing to pick up new skills and technologies
- Able to work safely in a data center environment, including lifting and moving equipment
