Job summary

HCLTech is seeking a Datacenter FieldOps Technician to support production network cabling and MACs across the datacenter. The role involves installing hardware, labeling, powering, and testing copper/fiber links while maintaining safety and documentation.

You will handle asset management, daily logs, on-call support, and on-site security procedures, with opportunities to work with advanced DC technologies and contribute to ongoing infrastructure health.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient with listed tools.
  • Skilled in terminating all connector types and methods for SMF and MMF systems (Unicam, anaerobic, heat-cure).
  • Experience in testing and troubleshooting MMF & PMLS (OTDR & PMLS).
  • Preferred 3-5 years of fiber experience.
  • Preferred industry certifications (Corning/FOA).
  • Preferred mechanical and fusion splice experience.
  • Preferred OSP / confined space entry experience (splicing).
  • Proficient with trade tools including screwdrivers, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool, tone set, crimp tool, and Krone/3M/BIX tools.

Responsibilities

  • Support and complete all scheduled data center MACs.
  • Perform hardware installation MACs, including device labeling, power, and network cable connectivity.
  • Complete hardware support work orders involving MACs, certification, troubleshooting, and break-fix.
  • Manage assets, auditing, and daily work log/ticket tracking.
  • Provide smart-hands assistance within SLA; on-call duties may apply.
  • Maintain a safe operating environment and report violations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and record keeping.
  • Follow site security protocols and data protection procedures.
  • Log, secure, and document media storage devices.
  • Use network hardware/components, copper and fiber installation/testing tools, and DCIM tools.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA processing.
  • Provide vendor and security escorts as needed.
  • Perform cleaning of floor, cabinets, work benches, and areas.
  • Support data center SOPs and reporting on service availability and capacity.
  • Conduct daily error log reporting and inspections for health/power/cooling hazards.
  • Coordinate installation and delivery schedules per project plans.
  • Perform on-call duties as needed.
  • Basic copper termination skills required.
  • Mount/install racks, patch panels, fiber hardware, grounding.
  • Perform testing: continuity tests, volt-ohmmeter use, troubleshoot cable issues, tone sets.
  • Install various fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP).
  • Terminate simplex & duplex jumper cords, outer fiber, indoor tight buffered fiber.
  • Install fan-out kits including buffer tubes.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets perTIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete paperwork timely (timesheets, transfers, work orders, changes, transfers).
  • Perform testing using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO.
  • Troubleshoot network issues using OTDR.
  • Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with fiber types.
  • Perform building entrance splices and direct buried splices.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Cabling & Termination
  • Support and complete all scheduled data center Moves/Adds/Changes (MACs).
  • Perform hardware installation MACs, including device labeling, power, and network cable connectivity.
  • Complete hardware support work orders involving MACs, certification, troubleshooting, and break-fix.
  • Manage assets, auditing, and daily work log/ticket tracking.
  • Provide smart-hands assistance within specified SLA response times (on-call duties may apply).
  • Maintain a safe and secure operating environment and report violations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation and record keeping.
  • Follow site security protocols, badging requirements, and data protection procedures.
  • Ensure proper logging, securing, and documentation of media storage devices.
  • Use network hardware/components, copper and fiber infrastructure installation and testing tools, and datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) tools.
  • Coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping, and RMA processing.
  • Provide vendor and security escorts as needed.
  • Perform general cleaning of floor, cabinet/rack surfaces, work benches, and other areas regularly.
  • Support standard and emergency operating procedures for the data center.
  • Provide status reporting on service availability, performance, and capacity utilization.
  • Conduct daily error log reporting and physical inspections for general health, power, cooling, and hazards.
  • Coordinate equipment installation and delivery schedules per project plans.
  • Perform on-call duties as needed.
  • Basic copper termination skills required.
  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware, and grounding.
  • Perform testing: continuity tests, use of volt-ohmmeter, troubleshoot cable issues, and use tone sets.
  • Install various fiber connectors (LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, MPO/MTP) for multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
