Your day at NTT DATA

The Data Center Deployment & Service Delivery Lead is a senior onsite leadership role responsible for end-to-end execution of data centre installation, network infrastructure, fibre deployment, equipment decommissioning and associated engineering activities. The role combines hands‑on delivery oversight with team management, quality assurance, client engagement and operational governance. The role is accountable for coordinating multiple shifts and workstreams, maintaining clear visibility of progress, resolving delivery risks and ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with approved technical standards, procedures and client expectations. The primary focus is deployment execution and service delivery rather than facilities management.

Key Responsibilities
Delivery Leadership
  • Own the safe and successful delivery of onsite deployment activities from planning and mobilisation through execution, validation, handover and closure.
  • Lead rack-and-stack, hardware installation, structured cabling, network connectivity, fibre infrastructure, equipment removal and site restoration activities.
  • Translate programme plans and technical requirements into clear shift plans, daily priorities, resource assignments and measurable deliverables.
  • Coordinate multiple teams, shifts and suppliers while managing dependencies, access constraints, materials, tooling and readiness requirements.
  • Monitor delivery against scope, schedule and quality targets, taking corrective action where performance or outcomes are at risk.
  • Maintain accurate status reporting, progress dashboards, completion records and evidence for client and programme governance.
Team and Shift Management
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership for engineers, technicians, team leads and partner resources working in a 24/7 or extended‑hours operational environment.
  • Allocate work according to capability, certification, site access and operational priority, ensuring appropriate supervision and coverage.
  • Run shift briefings, handovers and progress reviews to maintain continuity, ownership and clear escalation paths.
  • Coach team members on delivery standards, safe working practices, documentation quality and client‑facing conduct.
  • Identify capacity, capability and training gaps and work with programme leadership to improve readiness and scalability.
Quality Assurance and Technical Governance
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with approved statements of work, designs, implementation plans, standard operating procedures and method‑of‑procedure documentation.
  • Establish and maintain quality checkpoints for build, cabling, labelling, asset records, photographic evidence, testing, validation and handover.
  • Conduct or oversee inspections and acceptance checks, ensuring defects, non‑conformances and incomplete work are recorded and resolved.
  • Promote right‑first‑time delivery and use lessons learned, defect trends and audit findings to improve working methods.
  • Ensure engineering records, completion packs and client evidence are accurate, traceable and submitted within agreed timelines.
Client and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Act as the primary onsite delivery contact for the client, programme management, design teams, operations teams and external suppliers.
  • Provide clear, concise and evidence‑based updates on progress, risks, dependencies, quality and recovery actions.
  • Lead or contribute to daily reviews, governance calls, operational meetings and escalation discussions.
  • Manage expectations professionally, protect agreed scope and ensure changes are assessed, authorised and communicated before execution.
  • Build trusted working relationships while maintaining accountability for delivery commitments and service standards.
Risk, Safety and Operational Control
  • Identify and manage delivery risks, blockers and dependencies, escalating promptly with clear impact and recommended actions.
  • Ensure compliance with site rules, access controls, health and safety requirements, change controls and permit processes.
  • Validate readiness before work begins, including approved documentation, materials, tools, access, capacity and technical prerequisites.
  • Support incident reviews, root cause analysis and corrective action tracking when delivery, quality or safety issues occur.
  • Maintain control of assets, consumables, waste handling and secure equipment movements throughout the delivery lifecycle.
Continuous Improvement
  • Develop, maintain and improve operating procedures, implementation methods, checklists, handover templates and reporting routines.
  • Use delivery data and team feedback to remove waste, improve throughput and reduce repeat defects or avoidable rework.
  • Support the introduction of improved tools, automation and standardised delivery practices across sites and services.
  • Contribute practical insight to programme planning, estimation, mobilisation and future service design.
Service Scope

The role may lead multiple concurrent technical services, including:

  • Data centre equipment installation, rack integration and structured cabling.
  • Network and infrastructure deployment, patching, testing and implementation support.
  • Fibre pathway, cabling, termination, testing and remediation activities
  • Decommissioning, equipment removal, asset verification and secure disposal or return processes.
  • Site readiness, deployment validation, break/fix support and post‑installation quality assurance
Knowledge and Attributes
  • Strong practical understanding of data centre deployment activities and at least one relevant engineering domain.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and coordinate delivery across shifts, suppliers and technical workstreams.
  • Working knowledge of operational procedures, implementation methods, change control, quality assurance and acceptance processes.
  • Understanding of rack layouts, power and connectivity dependencies, structured cabling, network hardware and fibre infrastructure.
  • Excellent planning, prioritisation, problem‑solving and time‑management skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with confidence engaging technical teams, clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Detail‑oriented, evidence‑driven and able to maintain control in a fast‑paced, business‑critical environment.
  • Strong bias toward safe execution, delivery ownership, operational efficiency and continuous improvement
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience leading engineers or technicians in a data centre, network deployment, critical infrastructure or similar environment.
  • Experience delivering large‑scale or multi‑workstream deployments against defined scope, schedule and quality requirements.
  • Experience managing shift‑based delivery, operational handovers, risks, escalations and resource allocation.
  • Experience implementing quality controls, reviewing completed work and managing defects through to closure.
  • Experience working directly with clients, programme managers, suppliers and cross‑functional technical teams.
  • Experience producing delivery reports, dashboards, completion evidence and governance updates
Qualifications And Certifications
  • Degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship or equivalent professional experience in engineering, networking, telecommunications or a related discipline.
  • Relevant health and safety, data centre, networking, cabling, fibre or project delivery certifications are advantageous.
  • Formal leadership, service management or project management training is desirable
Working Requirements
  • Primarily onsite within data centre environments, with flexibility to support shift, weekend or out‑of hours delivery when required.
  • Ability to work across multiple workstreams and adapt priorities in response to programme and site conditions.
