Job description

Salling Search is assisting a globally recognized mining company to look for a Credit Risk Specialist based in their Singapore office. You will oversee credit risk across sourcing, origination, and marketing portfolios, enhance processes, and work closely with stakeholders to advance business objectives.

Sourcing & Origination (S&O) Portfolio

  • Serve as the key liaison for S&O credit risk, guiding transactions and decisions.
  • Collaborate with the Credit Risk Manager to present credit evaluations at Risk Committee meetings.
  • Work with front office teams to provide risk-focused solutions supporting commercial goals.
  • Approve delegated credit limits, escalating high-risk cases appropriately.
  • Perform detailed risk assessments (e.g., cash flow, sensitivity, stress testing) to design credit safeguards.
  • Recommend process improvements for S&O and broader credit management, staying informed on industry standards.

Commodity Marketing Team (CMT) Portfolio

  • Manage assigned CMT portfolios, completing credit reviews promptly to avoid backlogs.
  • Track portfolios daily, quickly addressing and escalating credit concerns.
  • Evaluate complex deals, advising on credit terms and protective contract clauses.
  • Facilitate trade finance and credit insurance solutions.
  • Verify exposure and excess monitoring reports for accuracy.
  • Partner with front office teams to gain insights into counterparty risks.
  • Lead stakeholder meetings to ensure alignment with credit risk policies.
  • Promote process automation, standardization, and system upgrades.
  • Keep credit records current and guide junior team members.

Portfolio Ownership

  • Take full responsibility for assigned portfolios, ensuring timely reviews and no backlog.
  • Monitor daily, engaging front office teams to assess counterparty risks.
  • Conduct credit reviews, using data to establish ratings and limits.
  • Analyze complex financing structures (e.g., debt, equities, royalties) to balance risk and reward.
  • Support secured credit arrangements and validate related reports.
  • Manage weekly S&O and post-deal reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Independently lead discussions with stakeholders to achieve credit risk objectives.
  • Deliver training sessions for front office teams as required.

Process Optimization

  • Streamline and automate credit processes, supporting system improvements.
  • Ensure credit records are accurate and compliant with governance standards.

Compliance

  • Follow all company policies and maintain high professional standards.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of S&O credit experience in banking, commodity trading, or marketing.
  • Strong credit analysis skills, particularly for junior miners, startups, and greenfield/brownfield projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of risk mitigation (e.g., incoterms) in commodity trading.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet modeling for financial forecasts and scenario analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven expertise in risk management, with excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Independent worker with strong stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Familiarity with risk management, trading, or sales systems.
