Our client is an international trading and commercial business with a diverse portfolio of counterparties across multiple markets.
As part of its continued growth, the business is looking for a Credit Risk & KYC Analyst to support counterparty credit assessment, KYC onboarding and ongoing risk monitoring.
This is a hands‑on role combining credit analysis, counterparty risk and technical KYC/AML due diligence. The successful candidate will work closely with commercial stakeholders while ensuring appropriate risk controls are maintained across the counterparty lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct credit assessments on new and existing counterparties, including customers, suppliers, financial institutions and other business partners.
- Analyse financial statements, management accounts, credit reports, corporate information and other relevant data to assess counterparty creditworthiness.
- Prepare credit assessments and recommendations covering credit limits, payment terms, exposure levels and appropriate risk mitigants.
- Monitor counterparty exposures against approved limits and identify potential breaches, deterioration in financial strength or emerging risks.
- Conduct periodic and event-driven credit reviews, updating assessments in response to changes in financial performance, ownership, business activities or market conditions.
- Review trading terms and credit support arrangements, including collateral, guarantees, letters of credit and other risk mitigation structures.
- Partner with Commercial and Trading teams to assess the credit implications of new transactions and counterparties.
- Prepare clear credit reports and recommendations for senior management and relevant approval committees.
KYC / AML / Counterparty Due Diligence
- Perform hands‑on KYC and AML due diligence during onboarding and periodic reviews of counterparties.
- Review and verify corporate structures, beneficial ownership, directors, shareholders, authorised signatories and related entities.
- Assess KYC documentation and identify gaps, inconsistencies or areas requiring further investigation.
- Conduct screening and review of potential sanctions, AML, ownership, reputational and other counterparty risks.
- Liaise directly with counterparties and internal stakeholders to obtain and validate outstanding KYC information and documentation.
- Apply a strong understanding of KYC requirements to identify higher-risk structures and **escalate** concerns appropriately.
- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records covering KYC status, counterparty information, credit limits and exposures.
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Support regular reporting on credit exposures, overdue receivables, KYC status and counterparty risk.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of credit risk, KYC and counterparty onboarding procedures and controls.
- Support internal and external audits and participate in risk‑related projects as required.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, quality and consistency of counterparty due diligence and credit processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Risk Management or a related discipline.
- 3-6+ years of relevant experience in credit risk, credit analysis, counterparty risk, KYC, AML, trade finance or a related function.
- Strong preference for candidates with hands‑on KYC experience and a solid technical understanding of KYC/AML requirements, rather than purely administrative onboarding experience.
- Experience within commodity trading, energy, oil & gas, shipping, financial services or another complex B2B environment would be advantageous.
- Strong financial statement analysis and counterparty credit assessment capabilities.
- Good understanding of KYC, AML, sanctions screening, beneficial ownership and corporate structure analysis.
- Familiarity with trade finance instruments such as letters of credit, guarantees, collateral and other credit risk mitigation tools would be advantageous.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem‑solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with Commercial, Trading and other internal teams.
- Proactive, organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to balance business requirements against appropriate credit and risk controls.
Candidates with deeper KYC/AML and counterparty due diligence expertise are encouraged to apply. The salary package will be aligned with the level of technical experience and depth of responsibility brought to the role.
