Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a compliance role within an oil major or commodity trading house.
  • Strong knowledge of AML, KYC and sanctions for APAC and global counterparties.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage with traders and stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and compliance screening software.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out KYC and risk-based due diligence on new and existing counterparties per Global KYC Policy.
  • Conduct sanctions, adverse media, PEP and reputational screening; investigate true matches.
  • Assist with ongoing monitoring and annual high-risk client reviews.
  • Maintain accurate KYC records to audit-defensible standards.
  • Act as day-to-day compliance contact for trading desks and support functions in Singapore and the region.
  • Contribute to policy development, training delivery and regulatory change initiatives.

Job description

We are seeking a Compliance Officer to support a global commodities trading business active across a broad range of physical and financial commodities. Based in Singapore, the role sits close to the trading desks and provides hands‑on, commercially focused KYC and compliancesupport across the firm's trading activities in the region.

The role supports the compliance and KYC function within BB Energy's Singapore office and, whererequired, other global offices across the BB Energy group.

This position combines counterparty due diligence and KYC work with broader day‑to‑day compliance and advisory support. It is well suited to a candidate who wants to work across both KYC and transactional compliance, rather than in a KYC‑only or purely administrative capacity.

Key Responsibilities
KYC and counterparty due diligence
  • Carry out KYC and risk‑based due diligence on new and existing counterparties, ensuring all parties are appropriatelyvettedand checks are completed in line with the firm's Global KYC Policy and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct sanctions, adverse media,PEPand reputational screening using the firm's screening tools, investigating truematchesand escalating whererequired.
  • Assistwith the ongoing monitoring,reviewand escalation of existing counterparties, including annual high‑risk client reviews.
  • MaintainaccurateKYC records and documentation to a standard that is audit‑defensible and supports the firm's onboarding and counterparty database.
Compliance advisory and support
  • Act as a day‑to‑day compliance contact for the trading desks and support functions in Singapore and the wider region.
  • Provide compliance input into new counterparties, tradingactivityand market entry, ensuring regulatory andsanctionsobligations areidentifiedand addressed at an early stage.
  • Provide practical, real‑time compliance advice to traders and operations covering market conduct, sanctions, tradecontrolsand higher‑riskjurisdictions.
  • Advise on UK, EU,USand Singapore sanctions regimes relevant to commodity trading, including counterparty,cargoand vessel‑related risk.
  • Assistwith responses to information requests and enhanced due diligence queries from banks,regulatorsand other stakeholders.
  • Support the Head of Compliance on day‑to‑day tasks and projects, both new and ongoing.
Framework, policy and training
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and delivery of compliance policies, procedures and trader‑focused training, and monitor business adoption.
  • Maintain excellent working knowledge of client checking, AML and CFTproceduresand the relevantregulation.
  • Support implementation of regulatory‑driven change initiativesimpactingthe trading business.
  • Escalate material compliance issues to the Head of Compliance ina timelyand well‑reasoned manner, with clear analysis and practical recommendations.
Required Experience and Background
  • A university degree (legal or other relevant discipline).
  • At least5years' relevant experience in aCompliance role within anoil majororcommodity trading house.

Desirable
  • Prior experience dealing with high‑risk clients andjurisdictions.
  • Knowledge of sanctions, anti‑bribery and corruption compliance, and familiarity with commodity and energy trading regulatory regimes.
  • Exposure to both physical commodities and derivatives.
  • Fluency in anadditionalAsian language,in particularMandarin, to converse with Mandarin‑speaking counterparties, would be an advantage.
  • A relevant compliance, legal or professional qualification (for example CAMS) isadvantageousbut not essential.
