DESIGNATION: Correspondent (Hanoi)

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Produce a steady supply of original, value-added and impactful stories that meet the highest editorial standards and span various platforms such as TV, digital and radio.
2. Ensure stories are well-edited as sharp, colourful and compelling for our audience.
3. Deliverables will include live hits, stories on the news of the day, feature packages and multi-part feature series.
4. Monitor news developments in Vietnam and its relations with the surrounding region and beyond; provide prompt, concise and accurate updates to guide editorial decisions.
5. Exercise sound judgment in identifying possible story ideas from news developments that will be interesting and impactful for our audience.
6. Submit daily schedules and week-ahead coverage; provide suggestions to senior editors in forward planning of major events.
7. Build up a reliable network of officials, businesspeople, analysts and private-sector professionals.
8. Contribute to CNA's efforts in adopting new technology such as AI, social media tools, etc.
9. Oversee management of bureau finances and payments, expense reports and logistics related to work in Hanoi and travel around Vietnam and the region.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. At least seven (7) years of editorial experience, preferably for a regional or global news service, with prior reporting experience of covering Vietnam a plus.
2. A news junkie with a keen interest in the news and current affairs agenda in Asia.
3. Outstanding writing skills, newsgathering abilities and a never-give-up spirit.
4. Comfortable in front of the camera and skilled in crafting TV news packages, features.
5. A sound understanding of geopolitical sensitivities and awareness of potential red lines.
6. Native or high level of fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of the Vietnamese language is a plus.
7. An independent operator with solid interpersonal skills who can also be a strong team player.
8. Prior experience in working with visual/AI/social media tools.
9. Prepared to work irregular shifts, including on weekends and public holidays.
10. This position will be based in Hanoi.
